Sanwo-Olu’s wife urges women to embrace leadership

The wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has called on women across the country to rise above complacency and take on leadership roles in politics, governance, and nation-building.

She made the call on Thursday at the All Progressives Congress Women Summit, with the theme, “Arise, Aspire and Ascend,” held in the state.

According to her, women must look beyond partisan politics and take on the broader responsibility of shaping society and building legacies for future generations.

She said, “As women, we must arise from any form of complacency and rise to take our place in leadership and ascend to a new level of impact in politics, governance, and nation-building. This is not limited to politics; it is about influence, about shaping society, and about building a legacy for generations to come. Any time you recite the national anthem, there are some words there that resonate with us; it keeps reminding us that we have a duty to fulfil, and that is what we are supposed to do.”

She added that she was particularly excited that the summit created a platform to engage teenagers, young people, and first-time voters, whom she described as the future of Nigeria’s democracy

Also speaking at the event, the Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, hailed the contributions of women to the development of society.

“Our women are very essential in making the world active and interesting with their beauty and glamour. They are valuable in development because of their organisational skills and multitasking ability.

Women are kind, smart, strong, prudent, and focused. They have empathy and compassion, and they are always thinking about helping others and making society stronger and better. Really, women are great,” Ojelabi said.

The state woman leader, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, urged the youths present to use the platform to shape the national conversation.
