Sanwo-Olu signs Lagos Electricity Law 2024, inaugurates regulatory commission

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday signed the Lagos State Electricity Law 2024 into law, aligning the state with the Electricity Act 2023 and the amended Nigerian Constitution

The governor also formally inaugurated the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) at Lagos House, Ikeja. The commission will regulate and oversee the electricity market in the state, ensuring reliable, affordable, and efficient power supply.

The newly appointed board members include: Mrs. Temitope George, CEO; Mr. Akinwunmi Ogunbiyi, Chairman; Mr. Bello Wasiu Oladimeji, Non-Executive Member; Engr. Adekunle Olapade, Executive Member – Engineering and Standards; and Mr. Kunle Falola, Executive Member – Licensing and Compliance.

Key functions of LASERC include:

Regulation and Licensing – granting licenses to providers, enforcing compliance, and maintaining service quality.

Tariff Regulation – developing fair tariffs and ensuring affordability.

Consumer Protection – addressing grievances and preventing exploitative practices.

Market Development – promoting competition, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and grid modernization.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that LASERC will enhance electricity delivery, foster innovation, and protect consumer rights across Lagos State.
