Residents of Agunbiade Parakoyi Street, Sawmill area of Ilorin, in Kwara State were left shaken on Tuesday after discovering a lifeless body in their community.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that landlords and residents of the area gathered at the scene to have a glimpse of the dead man, wondering who he was.

Alhaji Abdulwahab Bello-Opeloyeru, Chairman of lfesowapo Community, who is also in charge of the area’s security, said nobody had yet been able to identify the body.

Bello-Opeloyeru said he and other residents on the street heard a scream at about 3.39 a.m., but nobody could go out to check due to the security situation.

He explained that they, however, saw the corpse on their way to observe the early morning prayer.

The chairman alleged that the dead man was coming from a hotel within the vicinity when the incident happened.

He recalled that the community had met on Monday to take a stand against the establishment of hotels and alcoholic joints in the area

The meeting, he said, was to prevent such an occurrence.

However, police officers from the ‘B’ Division, Surulere Area, Ilorin, later arrived at the scene and picked up the body.

Meanwhile, efforts to speak with the spokesperson of the state Police Command, Ejire Adetoun, proved futile, as she did not pick up her phone calls.
