Police dismiss viral September 18 training notice for recruits

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a social media publication directing prospective Police Constable recruits to report for training on September 18, 2026.
The Force, in a disclaimer posted on its X handle on Wednesday, said the publication was not an official communication and urged prospective recruits to disregard it.
“The Nigeria Police Force has observed a publication circulating on social media purportedly emanating from the Force, directing prospective Police Constable recruits to report for training on 18th September 2026.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to state that the said publication is not an official communication of the Force and should be disregarded,” the statement said.
The forged letter, dated 1 September 2026, mimics official police stationery and reportedly lists required personal items such as white canvass shoes and bedding for the supposed training at various state headquarters.
Images of the document shared online have been stamped “FAKE” by the Force.
“All prospective trainees are advised to rely solely on information communicated through their respective recruitment portals and the official communication channels of the Nigeria Police Force for verified and authentic updates regarding the recruitment and training exercise,” NPF added.
The police also urged members of the public to refrain from circulating unverified information that could cause confusion or mislead prospective recruits.
This latest disclaimer comes amid the ongoing large-scale recruitment of 50,000 Police Constables into the NPF, ordered by President Bola Tinubu in late 2025 as part of efforts to address insecurity and strengthen the Force’s manpower.
The Police Service Commission, which oversees the recruitment in collaboration with the NPF, opened the application portal on 15 December 2025.
In July 2026, the PSC released the list of successful candidates.
On 6 August 2026, the PSC formally handed over the 50,000 newly recruited constables to the NPF for training to approved institutions.
