Police detain officers over harassment in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has detained officers following allegations that members of the Anti-Cultism Squad harassed youths and confiscated their phones at Ojuelegba Underbridge.

The incident was reported by a social media user on Monday night.

In a statement on Tuesday via X, the command said the officers involved “have been identified and brought before the Commissioner of Police. Their statements have been obtained, and he has ordered their detention pending further investigation.”

The video circulating online claimed that “police impunity is back on full display. At Ojuelegba Under Bridge, Lagos, the Anti-Cultism Squad officers are harassing youths and confiscating their phones.”

Meanwhile, the Lagos police said it has contacted the complainant, who “is expected to report tomorrow to provide his statement and assist in the ongoing investigation.” The command added that “the outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.”
