Police ban use of mini-buses, tricycles for patrols in Imo

The Imo State Police Command has banned the use of unmarked mini-buses and commercial tricycles for patrol operations across the state.

The directive, issued by the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, on Tuesday night, follows public outcry over the use of such vehicles by police tactical teams to allegedly harass, extort and intimidate residents.

The police boss who described the action as grossly unprofessional warned that any operative caught for flaunting the order would be dealt with.

The order read, “The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP ABOKI DANJUMA, has issued a firm directive banning all tactical teams from using unmarked vehicles, including mini-buses and tricycles (Keke), for patrols across the state.

This action follows numerous complaints of harassment, intimidation, and extortion by some tactical officers operating in unapproved vehicles while on routine patrols.

“The CP described the act as grossly unprofessional, and warned that any team found violating this directive will face immediate sanctions. Commanders of such teams will be vicariously held liable.”

Meanwhile, the Imo Police Command has reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism, accountability, and ethical policing standards in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police.
