Police arrest Bauchi man for defiling minor

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old minor in Magama Gumau, Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer Nafiu Habib, “The incident was reported on 15th May 2026 by the 40-year-old father of the victim, a resident of Magama Gumau. He reported alongside his 10-year-old biological daughter that earlier the same day, one Hamza Yahaya, 70 years old, of the same address, lured the minor to his hideout within the area and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.

“Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives attached to the Toro Division immediately mobilised to the scene and arrested the suspect. During interrogation, the suspect denied the recent allegation but voluntarily confessed to having sexually assaulted the victim on three previous occasions at the same location.

“Both the victim and the suspect were taken to the General Hospital, Toro, for medical examination and treatment. The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Bauchi, for further investigations and prosecution.”

Meanwhile, the PPRO stressed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has assured the public that the case would be pursued diligently to ensure justice is served.

He urged parents, guardians, and community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may compromise the safety and welfare of their children.

In another development, the command arrested a suspected motorcycle thief and recovered a stolen Haojue motorcycle in the Gwallameji area.

In this incident, Habib revealed that “ While acting on routine patrol directives, operatives of E Division, Yelwa, intercepted one Bashir Usman, a 19-year-old male resident of Fada, on 16th May 2026.

The suspect was found in possession of an unregistered red Haojue motorcycle.”

He maintained  that upon preliminary interrogation, Usman confessed to have stolen the motorcycle from a student lodge within Gwallameji.

“Consequently, the Command has launched a detailed investigation to identify and trace the rightful owner. Once verified, the recovered motorcycle will be released to the owner on bond in accordance with due process,” the PPRO assured.

“Meanwhile, the suspect remains in custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of preliminary investigations,” Habib further disclosed.

However, the statement noted that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain visibility policing and ensure that criminal elements are brought to justice.

He further urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly to the nearest police station.
