Osun renovates burnt high court, tracks arsonists

The Osun State government has said the suspected arsonists behind the burning of Court Room 2 in Ilesa High Court would not escape without paying for the crime they committed.

The government also assured that renovation work would start immediately.

This was disclosed by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, after inspecting the burnt court building on Tuesday alongside the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Dosu Babatunde.

The news reports that the High Court 2 building was razed by suspected arsonists, drawing condemnation from Governor A, the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.

It is more than barbaric, but anyway, justice will catch up with such persons very soon. It is a matter of time. We are going to secure the court and start renovation,” the commissioner stated.

Jimi-Bada demanded an adequate security presence in the court premises as he recalled past attacks on the court.

He said last year, thieves carted away electric cables in Ilesa court.

We need to secure this place because this is not the first time that this has happened.

“My brother commissioner told me that they attacked former Court Two in 2017 and burnt it also.

“Also, last year, they carted away electric cables from this court. All this nonsense had to stop.

“We will start renovation work almost immediately, We cannot abandon the court as the judge cannot sit. We have to also prioritise the security of this place,” he said.

Speaking on the renovation, the commissioner said engineers from the works ministry would inspect the place to work on the entire compound.

“We will try to see what we can do with our 2025 budget. We need not wait for the judiciary to bring a memo; if we are waiting, no memo will be brought.

“That is why we brought engineers from the Ministry of Works, we are going to work on the entire compound
