Ondo Police arrest four over school proprietress abduction, shooting of three
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 15-year-old, Adama Usman, and three others in connection with the abduction of a primary school proprietress, Oladeinde Tomilola, along Liberty Avenue, Ilu-Abo, in Akure North Local Government Area, Ondo State.
The incident occurred around 8 pm when gunmen stormed the victim’s residence, abducted her, and shot three people, including two bystanders—Victoria and her 11-year-old daughter, Victoria Olorunfemi—who were passing through the area
In a weekend statement, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said the suspects were arrested in a hotel behind Ado Garage, Akure, through an intelligence-driven operation by the police Tactical Teams in collaboration with the Ondo State Security Network (Amotekun Corps).
The arrested suspects are identified as Abdullahi Ismaila (20), Babanyara Japi (25), Babuga Abubakar (25), and Adama Usman (15). Police recovered ₦1.4 million suspected to be part of the ransom from the kidnapping.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects confessed and are members of a criminal syndicate operating around the Eleyowo, Ilu-Abo, and Ogbese axis,” Abayomi said. “The victim positively identified the suspects and expressed appreciation for the prompt police response.”
The police have commenced a comprehensive investigation to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement in kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities. Efforts are ongoing to track other members of the criminal network and link them to past incidents.
Abayomi assured residents that the police remain committed to combating kidnapping, robbery, cultism, and other violent crimes. He urged the public to provide credible, actionable information to support security efforts and advised victims to come forward for debriefing to aid investigations.
