Ogun court remands 45-year-old woman for pouring hot water on niece
An Ogun State Magistrate Court sitting at Ijebu Imushin has remanded a 45-year-old woman, Taiwo Adeoye, at the Ijebu Ode Correctional Centre after she was charged by the police for allegedly pouring hot water on her 13-year-old niece, Modinat Adeoye, causing grievous bodily injuries.
The court ordered her remand pending the perfection of the N3m bail granted to her.
The spokesperson for the state Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.
Babaseyi said the suspect was arrested for allegedly inflicting grievous injuries on the teenager at Ijebu Imusin after bathing her with hot water for allegedly “following men around.”
He explained, “The incident, which occurred on April 13, 2026, at about 1530hrs at No. 13 Odomogun Area, Imusin, was reported to the police, prompting an immediate response from detectives attached to the division.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly poured hot water on the victim, who is her niece and resides with her, resulting in severe burns across parts of the victim’s body.
“Upon receipt of the report, detectives swiftly visited the scene, rescued the victim, and ensured her immediate transfer to a medical facility where she is currently receiving treatment.”
Babaseyi added that the suspect was later arraigned before the Magistrate Court in Ijebu Imushin and subsequently remanded at the Ijebu Ode Correctional Centre pending the perfection of her bail conditions.
The command condemned all forms of violence and abuse against children and reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society.
