NYCN commends Lagos for advancing youth development

Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Mr Ibrahim Adigun, on Saturday lauded the state government’s contribution to youth and human capital development.

Adigun spoke during the 2025 Africa/National Youth Day celebration in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.

The NYCN, established in 1964 as the umbrella body for youth organisations in the country, plays a coordinating role in implementing the National Youth Policy (2019–2023), which outlines state-level responsibilities in youth empowerment, leadership grooming, and skills development

Adigun said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, in the past few years, had shown commitment to youth development and empowerment with numerous programmes.

He said the state government had executed far-reaching programmes in the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, led by Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende and Mrs Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary, respectively.

“LASG has increased its support for youth organisations like the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, Ibile Youth Academy, Lagos Youth Development Institute, among others.

Lagos State is ranked highest among other states of the federation at the ongoing Youth Day celebration final,” he said.

Adigun also commended Lagos State for its youth policy review and the movement of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to the Ministry of Youth and Social Development.

Lagos has, in the past year, inaugurated a Technical Working Group on Youth Engagement to enhance programme delivery across the 57 LGAs and LCDAs, while also expanding digital skills initiatives and community-based youth interventions.

NAN reports that Adigun and Abubakri Asoro, Vice Chairman, Lagos East, received an award presented by Mr Emmanuel Olawande, Minister of Youth Development, at the event on behalf of LASG.
