Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Danbatta Division, Kano State, have arrested a suspected vandal and recovered four bags filled with aluminium electricity conductor cables in Danbatta town.

This is contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command of the NSCDC, Ibrahim Abdullahi, a copy of which was made available to PUNCH Online on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the suspect, Jamilu Inusa, of Kauyen Mudu village, Danbatta Local Government Area, was apprehended on Friday, October 2, 2026, while the operatives were on patrol.

“The operatives of the NSCDC Danbatta Division, while on patrol duty around 0415hrs on Friday, 02/10/2026, and acting on credible intelligence, apprehended a suspected vandal, identified as Jamilu Inusa, 20 years old, of Kauyen Mudu, Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.

The suspect was intercepted in possession of a white Volkswagen Golf Wagon with registration number KMC 656 ZJ.

Following further investigation and a search operation, our operatives recovered four bags filled with aluminium electricity conductor cables, which had been concealed in a compound within Danbatta. The vehicle was used to convey the vandalised items by the suspect in our custody,” the statement said.

It said the recovered conductors were bare-stranded aluminium wires, ACSR/AAC type, commonly used for overhead 33KV, 11KV and low-voltage electricity distribution lines.

The NSCDC described the vandalism and theft of critical national assets, particularly electricity infrastructure, as a serious threat to public safety and socio-economic development.

The Corps said it was currently on the trail of two other prime suspects who were at large, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend them.

It added that, after the conclusion of the investigation, appropriate legal action would be taken against the suspects in accordance with the law.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Agalama, commended the operatives of the Danbatta Division for their vigilance and professionalism, urging members of the public to continue providing credible information that would assist security agencies in preventing vandalism and protecting critical national assets.
