LASG clears drain, arrests woman for illegal waste disposal

Operatives of the Emergency Flood Abatement Gang from Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources on Wednesday carried out the cleaning and desilting of a Secondary Collector drain and the evacuation of silts from manholes at Ago Palace Way, Okota, Isolo Local Council Development Area.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said in a statement that the move was part of measures to prevent flooding in the area.

“Operatives of the Emergency Flood Abatement Gang from Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources continued with the cleaning/desilting of Secondary Collector drain and evacuation of silts from manholes at Ago Palace Way, Okota, Isolo LCDA as part of measures to prevent flooding in the area,” he wrote on X.

He added that officials arrested a woman in the Iyana Iba area of the state for illegal dumping of refuse on the median.

Wahab described the act as “reckless,” noting that the action had a negative impact on the state’s effort to curb flooding.

“This morning, operatives of @LAGESCOfficial arrested 30-year-old Sarah for illegally dumping refuse on the median at Iyanaba.”

This reckless act undermines our efforts to maintain a clean and flood-free Lagos,” he stated.

Let this serve as a clear warning: dumping waste on road medians or public spaces is a punishable offence. Offenders will face immediate arrest and prosecution,” the commissioner added.
