KEDCO explains power outage across eight Kano LGs

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company has attributed the power outage in some local government areas of Kano State to a transmission capacity deficit.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the management of the company, the problem followed a fault on the 40MVA 132/33KV power transformer at the 132KV Kwanar-Dangora transmission substation.
“This is to inform our esteemed customers in Kura, Garun Malam, Kiru, Karaye, Rogo, Bebeji, Tudun Wada, and Doguwa Local Government Areas that the current power outage is due to a transmission capacity deficit following a fault on the 40MVA 132/33kV power transformer at the 132kV Kwanar–Dangora Transmission Substation.
“The transformer’s primary and secondary circuit breakers tripped following multiple protection indications, including circuit supervision, earthing transformer trip, oil temperature alarm, lockout, and side-trip circuit supervision.
Subsequently, the affected transformer was isolated and the matter referred to the Transmission Company of Nigeria maintenance team for necessary repairs,” the statement said.
It added that efforts are currently ongoing to procure and replace the affected earthing transformer to facilitate the restoration of normal power supply.
It added, “KEDCO is working closely with Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and other relevant stakeholders to minimise the impact of the transmission capacity deficit and explore available options for alternative supply to affected customers pending completion of the repair works.”
The company said it regretted all inconveniences caused by this unforeseen occurrence, while assuring its customers that normal supply shall be restored as soon as work is completed.
