Kebbi gov approves ₦650m 15MVA transformer to tackle power outages
The Kebbi State Government has approved the release of ₦650 million for the procurement and installation of a 15MVA power transformer, in a major intervention aimed at improving electricity supply and easing the burden of persistent power outages across the state.
The approval was granted by the State Governor, Nasir Idris, according to the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, who disclosed the development on Friday while briefing journalists in Birnin Kebbi.
Tafida said the intervention underscores the governor’s commitment to alleviating the hardship faced by residents as a result of epileptic power supply.
“I am pleased to inform you that His Excellency, Governor Nasir Idris, has approved the sum of ₦650 million for the procurement and installation of a 15MVA power transformer to improve electricity supply in Kebbi State,” the SSG stated.
“The decision to procure and install a 15MVA transformer is part of Governor Nasir Idris’ resolve to improve the quality of life of our people by addressing critical infrastructure challenges,” the SSG said.
He noted that although electricity distribution is statutorily the responsibility of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, the state government considered it necessary to intervene in the overriding interest of the people.
“While power distribution falls within the purview of KAEDCO, the Kebbi State Government found it expedient to step in to reduce the suffering of residents caused by persistent power outages,” Tafida explained.
The SSG further revealed that the state government provides ₦150 million monthly financial support to KAEDCO to strengthen service delivery and ensure a more stable and sustainable electricity supply across Kebbi State.
He urged residents to support the efforts of the government by promptly paying their electricity bills, stressing that improved revenue collection would help sustain enhanced power supply.
“This cooperation is crucial to maintaining the gains we are working hard to achieve in the power sector,” he added.
