JUST IN: Kenyan athlete Edwin Kibet wins 2025 Access Bank Lagos city marathon

The 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon was conducted on Saturday, and Edwin Koech, a Kenyan runner, won the men's division. He took home the $50,000 men's category first-place award. It took the 41-year-old 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 18 seconds to finish.

About 37,000 runners participated in the 10km and 42km races of the 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

The Kenyan won the title for the second time in three years after claiming the gold medal in 2023.

Guta Meseret Hirpa of Ethiopia was the first woman to cross the finish line.

She crossed the line at 2 hours, 14 minutes and four seconds to claim her first-ever women’s title in Lagos.

The 42km race began at the National Stadium in Surulere and ended at the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island.
