Isaac Fayose commends Rivers CP over removal of illegal roadblock
Social commentator Isaac Fayose has commended the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, for personally inspecting police checkpoints and dismantling illegal roadblocks across the state.
In a video shared on X on Tuesday, Fayose praised the police chief’s actions and urged commissioners of police in other states to emulate the initiative.
“I wish other commissioners of police across the country would do the same. The Rivers State Commissioner of Police has been actively carrying out inspection tours of checkpoints and highways. This is commendable,” he said.
Fayose also called for the retraining of police officers and urged senior officers to carry out more monitoring of personnel deployed on the roads.
The video has since generated reactions on X, with users expressing support for the commissioner’s actions.
A user identified on X as #CallmeOla wrote, “Most of them on blocks are to extort money from people. Good the commissioner is doing a great work. He should have disguised without wearing uniform to catch one or two. All these police need to be retrained.”
Another user, #EDO BLOOD, said, “This man has been doing this since he became a commissioner of police in Rivers State. I encountered them early this year.”
Online reported on Tuesday that Adepoju led a statewide inspection of police checkpoints and ordered the immediate removal of unauthorised roadblocks on highways as part of efforts to enforce the directives of the Inspector-General of Police against extortion, illegal roadblocks and misconduct by officers.
During the exercise, the commissioner said officers should carry out stop-and-search operations without obstructing traffic, adding that illegal roadblocks encountered during the inspection were dismantled immediately.
