This historic milestone marks a significant leap in the socio-economic transformation of Ogun State and positions Iperu Remo as an emerging aviation hub and a strategic gateway to global commerce.

In a statement jointly signed by the Convener, Prince Ladi OLABINJO; Administrators, High Chief Barr. Ifasola Saheed OPEODU (the Oluwo of Iperu) and Otunba Adebayo SALAMI; as well as the Media Officer, Temitope OYEKAN, the Forum commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed TINUBU for its Renewed Hope Initiative, which continues to inspire national progress and economic revitalization.

The Forum also congratulates the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo ABIODUN, CON, an illustrious indigene of Iperu Akesanland, on this historic achievement, which has placed Iperu and Ogun State on the global aviation and economic map.

According to the Forum, the successful delivery of this landmark infrastructure reflects visionary leadership and a sustained commitment to economic development. It applauded the Governor ABIODUN-led administration for its “Building Our Future Together” Agenda and the transformative ISEYA mantra, both of which have driven infrastructural growth and expanded investment opportunities across the state.

The Forum recalls with pride the commencement of commercial flight operations at the airport, marked by the maiden flight on October 7, 2025. It expressed optimism for the proposed commencement of international flights and full-scale cargo operations, which are expected to further enhance trade, agriculture, and industrial development in the region.

“Iperu Remo, widely regarded as the Akesan Baale Oja and a nerve centre of commerce, stands poised to benefit immensely from this development, reinforcing its status as a thriving economic hub,” the statement added.

The commencement and operation of the Gateway International Airport signal a new dawn for the people of Iperu, Ikenne Local Government, Remoland, and Ogun State at large. The Forum noted that the airport’s strategic location within the Remo Industrial Corridor will accelerate regional development through job creation and entrepreneurship, increased investment and trade, tourism and hospitality growth, infrastructure, urban renewal, and enhanced connectivity.

With this development, the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, is set to link Ogun State directly to global markets, fostering seamless travel and trade.

While celebrating this landmark achievement, the Forum urged Governor ABIODUN to prioritize the improvement of intra-city roads to ensure smooth mobility and accommodate increased vehicular traffic, ensure stable power supply to support businesses and airport operations, strengthen security measures within the airport corridor and surrounding communities, and facilitate the engagement of Iperu youths across operational, administrative, technical, and support roles at the airport.

This the Forum noted, will enhance community ownership, promote local content, reduce unemployment, and empower youths economically.

The Forum also commended ongoing, completed and proposed infrastructure projects linked to the airport, including the road connecting the airport to the Sagamu–Benin Expressway, the reconstruction of the Siun–Ajura–Ogere–Iperu–Ilisan Road (with the Iperu–Ilisan section already completed), Aviation Estate, Customs Training School, and the proposed Purple Line Metro Rail connecting Mowe to Iperu.

Reaffirming its support for Governor ABIODUNs transformational leadership, the Forum expressed optimism that the Gateway International Airport, alongside the Special Agro-Processing Zone and the Remo Economic Cluster, will consolidate Ogun State’s position as a hub of industrial and economic excellence.

As a key stakeholder in the progress of the community, the Forum reaffirmed its steadfast support for initiatives that promote growth, connectivity, and prosperity.

The Forum congratulates all sons and daughters of Iperu Akesanland, both at home and in the diaspora, as the host community of the Gateway International Airport, particularly the people of Orubo, Iragbon, Eluju, Arogbo, Idena, Magbon, Isapetu, Emulu, and Ogunmogbo, on whose vast farmlands the aviation facility is sited upon.
