Iperu Indigenes Forum Congratulates Gov. Abiodun on Inaugural Commercial Flight At Gateway International Airport

The Iperu Indigenes Forum has sent its heartfelt felicitations to His Excellency, Prince Dapo ABIODUN, CON, Governor of Ogun State, and the entire Iperu Akesanland community on the successful completion of the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, and its maiden commercial flight scheduled for Tuesday, 7th October 2025.

In a statement jointly signed by the Convener, Prince Ladi OLABINJO; Administrators, High Chief Barr. Ifasola Saheed OPEODU (the Oluwo of Iperu); and Otunba Adebayo SALAMI; as well as the Media Officer, Temitope OYEKAN; the Forum lauded the Governor, an illustrious son of Iperu Akesanland for this historic milestone that has placed Iperu and Ogun State on the global aviation and economic map.

The commencement and operations of the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, marks a new dawn for the people of Iperu, Ikenne Local Government, Remoland, and Ogun State at large. The Forum noted that the airport’s location within the Remo Industrial Corridor is strategically positioned to accelerate regional development through Job Creation and Entrepreneurship; Increased Investment and Trade; Tourism and Hospitality Growth;

Infrastructure and Urban Renewal; and Enhanced Connectivity:

By this development and the anticipated commencement of international flights following ICAO certification, the Gateway International Airport, Iperu will link Ogun State directly to global markets, fostering seamless travel and trade.

While celebrating this landmark achievement, the Forum urges Governor ABIODUN to prioritize the improvement of intra-city roads to facilitate smooth mobility and accommodate the expected rise in vehicular traffic; ensure stable power supply to support businesses and airport operations; and put in place enhanced security measures to guarantee safety within the airport corridor and its surrounding communities.

The Forum also commends ongoing and proposed infrastructural projects linked to the airport, including the road linking the airport with the Sagamu–Benin Expressway; the reconstruction of the Siun–Ajura–Ogere–Iperu–Ilsan Road, which has commenced at the Iperu–Ilisan section; and the proposed Purple Line Metro Rail that will connect Mowe to Iperu, reinforcing the Governor’s ISEYA mantra and Building Our Future Together agenda.

The Forum further congratulates ValueJet Airline on the successful maiden commercial flight from the Gateway International Airport. It commends the airline’s commitment to excellence and innovation in Nigeria’s aviation industry and wishes it even greater success in the years ahead.

In reaffirming support for Governor ABIODUN's transformational leadership, the Forum expresses optimism that the Gateway International Airport, (GWI), Iperu, alongside the Special Agro-Processing Zone and the Remo Economic Cluster, will consolidate Ogun State’s position as a hub of industrial and economic excellence.

“Your Excellency, please accept our warmest felicitations on these remarkable achievements and our commendation for your relentless drive to transform Iperu and Ogun State into a model of modern governance, innovation, and inclusive prosperity,” the statement concluded.

The Forum congratulates all sons and daughters of Iperu Akesanland, both at home and in the diaspora, for this monumental and historic achievement.

It will be recalled that Iperu as the host community of the Gateway International Airport provided several hectares, large chunk and vast portion of lands upon which the aerotropolis is sited. These spans Orubo, Iragbon, Eluju, Arogbo, Idena, Magbon, Isapetu, Emulu, and Ogunmogbo communities' farmlands.
