I don’t care about assumptions people make about me — Seyi Hunter

Nollywood actress, filmmaker and adult entertainment consultant, Seyi Hunter has openee up about her personality and the misconceptions surrounding her career, insisting that she is not bothered by what people think about her.

Speaking in an interview with Potpourri, Hunter said her public personality is largely a reflection of who she really is and not simply a character created for attention.

A lot of what people see is actually me. I’m naturally bold, daring, outspoken and I’ve never been the type to live my life according to what people think I should be doing. Of course, Seyi Hunter is also a brand, and I’ve been very deliberate about building that brand, but I didn’t have to create a fake personality to do it. I think what makes my brand work is that I’m not afraid to be myself. I’ll do things other people are too scared to do, and I’ll say things other people are thinking but won’t say.

On the changing entertainment industry and the increasing influence of social media, Hunter said talent remains important but cannot guarantee visibility on its own.

“Talent matters, but let’s be honest: talent alone is not enough anymore. You can be extremely talented and still be invisible if nobody knows you exist. Social media has changed the game. Today, you have to understand visibility, branding and how to sell yourself. And I don’t see anything wrong with that. If you have a talent, why hide it? I think the real advantage is knowing how to combine the two. Your branding gets people to notice you, but your talent, consistency and ability to deliver determine whether they stay. I’ve always understood the importance of visibility. I’m not going to sit somewhere waiting for people to discover me. If I want attention for what I’m doing, I’ll create the attention myself. That’s just how I operate.”

Addressing the biggest misconception about her, Hunter said she has stopped worrying about assumptions people make about her, especially when those assumptions do not affect her ability to build her businesses.

“Honestly, I don’t give a damn about most of the assumptions people make about me anymore. If what they think about me is paying my bills, then everybody should continue thinking whatever they want. I’m good. People don’t read. They see something, create their own story around it and run with it. And I’m not going to spend my life explaining myself to people who have already made up their minds. Because I’m in the adult business, own an adult spa and produce adult content, some people assume I’m automatically a pornstar or that I personally act in everything I produce. There is a difference between a pornographer and a pornstar, but I’m honestly tired of explaining that distinction. And quite frankly, I don’t think I owe anybody an explanation. I’m bold. I’m daring. I take risks. I go into spaces other people are too scared to enter, and I make money from it. That’s the part people should understand about me. I’m not trying to be everybody’s cup of tea. I’m building my life, building my businesses and doing things my own way. If people like me, great. If they don’t, that’s also fine. Ya’ll need to come experience my Adult Spa, keyword “Adult”.”
