Glo, Ondo to partner on digital solutions

Telecommunications solutions provider, Globacom, has assured the Ondo State Government of enhanced efficiency and productivity through a suite of digital solutions it plans to deploy across the state.

Group Lead, Enterprise Business at Globacom, Adeniyi Odejobi, gave the assurance during a strategic partnership meeting with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and other government officials in Akure, the state capital, recently.

According to Odejobi, in a statement shared,Globacom will collaborate with the state in deploying a Learning Management System to support students in secondary and tertiary institutions.

He added that the company would also provide its Glo Share—sponsored data service—for zero-rated access to the LMS, enabling students to learn online using free data within the state.

Odejobi noted that the sponsored data service would extend to the state’s digital payment platform, allowing residents to pay taxes using free data.

“This means citizens will be able to pay their taxes whilst using free data in Ondo State,” he explained.

Other areas of collaboration, according to Odejobi, include the Glo Surveillance Solution, which leverages facial biometrics and traffic management technology to reduce crime.

“We will also be assisting the state to track its official cars to forestall theft and abuse,” he added.

As part of the deal, Globacom will provide free-access Closed User Group lines to facilitate effective communication among public servants across ministries, departments, and agencies.

Commenting, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed pride in the array of solutions presented by the company and affirmed his administration’s readiness to adopt them to improve governance.

He said the partnership with the telecommunications giant would foster digital innovation, enhance service delivery, and spur socio-economic development in the state.

Highlighting ongoing efforts to digitise governance, Aiyedatiwa cited the launch of iOndo, an electronic tax collection platform introduced three months ago, which allows residents to conveniently pay ground rents and other taxes online.

“Adopting new technologies from Globacom will reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, increase efficiency, and limit human interference in government processes,” the governor said.

He commended Globacom for its role in revolutionising Nigeria’s telecom industry, recalling its pioneering contributions such as per-second billing and affordable SIM cards, which made mobile telephony accessible to millions of Nigerians.
