FRSC blames speed as road crash kills two in Abia

Two persons lost their lives in a fatal accident along Umuahia-Uzuakoli road in Umuda, Abia State, on Friday.
The accident was said to have involved a commercial Mark Truck and a yellow tricycle (Keke) with registration number ATN 201 VU.
The Commander, Abia State Sector Command, Ngozi Ezeoma, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, disclosed that six persons were injured in the crash.
“The Federal Road Safety Corps, Abia State Sector Command, regrets to announce a fatal road traffic crash that occurred on Friday, July 11, 2025, at about 4:30 pm, along the Umuhahia–Uzuakoli route, specifically at Umuda.
Upon receiving the crash report at 4:33 pm, our rescue team arrived at the scene promptly within two minutes to carry out emergency response operations.”
Preliminary investigation suggests that the probable cause of the crash was speed limit violation, aggravated by wet weather conditions, as it was raining at the time. The road was paved, but visibility and control may have been compromised due to the weather,” the statement read.
She added that the injured victims were immediately transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia for prompt medical attention, while the deceased have been deposited at the FMC mortuary in the state capital.
While extending its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing the injured a speedy recovery, the FRSC commander appealed to all road users, particularly commercial drivers, to obey speed limits, especially during adverse weather conditions.
She urged motorists to exercise caution and patience at all times.
The Corps, the statement noted, remained committed to its mandate of ensuring safer roads in Abia State and beyond.
