Foundation donates food items to Mokwa flood victims

The North South Power Foundation has presented some food items to the Niger State government for the victims of the tragic flood that overwhelmed Mokwa Local Government Area, a forthnight ago.

The flood disaster, which followed a torrential rainfall, killed nearly 200 people and destroyed over 50 houses. Over 3000 residents were displaced in the incident.

Nigerians from all walks of life, as well as public and private organisations, have been commiserating with the victims and making both monetary and financial interventions.

The federal government had pledged N2 billion for the relocation of the displaced victims as well as the rebuilding of the houses affected by the incident.

The state government made a N1 billion donation, while the Borno State government made a donation of N300 million. The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election Peter Obi, also made a N20 million donation.

The North South Power Foundation, Shiroro, like other public-spirited groups, also identified with the Mokwa victims through the donation of millions of naira worth of food items.

The consultant of the firm on Corporate Social Responsibility, Hassan Abdullahi, led the team to the Niger State capital to make the presentation

The foundation presented 50bags of 25kg rice, 50bags of 25kg beans, 50bags of 10kg semovita, 50 cartons of spaghetti, 50 bags of salt, 50 cartons of Maggi, 50 gallons of 5kg kings oil and 50 gallons of 5kg palm oil.

“I am here with my team from the North South Power Foundation Shiroro. We are here to commiserate with the Niger State government over the unfortunate incident that occurred in Mokwa a few days ago, and in our own little way of identifying with the victims, we are presenting these items

“So, on behalf of North South Power Foundation, we present these items, and we have a letter from our chief operating officer for the Niger State government. We can not question what has happened.. We pray to God that we do not witness this type of thing again in our lifetime,” Abdullahi went philosophical.

The Niger State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and  Disaster Management  Ahmed Suleiman, who received the food items on behalf of the state government thanked the foundation for the items and assured that they would be delivered to the victims immediately.

“We have received these food items from the North South Power Foundation for what has happened in Mokwa. The victims will get this intervention from the Foundation any moment from now, and we pray that Allah will continue to bless and promote them,” he said
