Fire service recovers body of 38-year-old man from Oyo well

The Oyo State Fire Service has recovered the body of a 38-year-old man who fell into a deep well at No. 1/184A, Ile-Epo Compound, Beere, in Ibadan South East Local Government Area.

The incident occurred around 1:30pm on Friday.

This is the latest in a series of similar tragedies across the state.

In November 2025, the body of a 45-year-old man was retrieved from a well in Odo-Ogbo, Oja-Agbe, in Iseyin LGA.

Earlier in June, officials of the Saki Zonal Command also recovered the remains of a two-year-old girl from a well at Orita Mokola Junction in Saki LGA.

Confirming Friday’s incident, the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Service Agency, Moroof Akinwande, said the command received a distress call from Mapo Police Division.

According to him, the firefighters, led by CFS Adedeji, were immediately deployed to the scene.

The emergency call was received by the Fire Service control room centre at exactly 13:30hrs on Friday, December 5, 2025, and DCP Mapo Police Division, after someone fell into a well at the above address.

“The fire personnel led by CFS Adedeji swiftly responded and deployed to the scene of the incident. Upon arrival, it was a man of about 38 years of age, fell into a deep well.

“Our officers hurriedly tied all necessary rescue knots with the lines. The victim was recovered and handed over to a team of policemen from the Mapo Police Division,” Akinwande said.

Akinwande advised residents to prioritise their mental well-being and to seek support whenever they feel overwhelmed.

He also encouraged the public to promptly report emergencies and provide accurate location details.
