Fayose endorses Tinubu, Oyebanji for second term

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a political gathering in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Monday, Fayose declared his support for the re-election of the President and the continuation of Oyebanji’s administration, despite being a member of the opposition.

“I hereby endorse publicly, without reservation, President Bola Tinubu for a second term.

“I also endorse our governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and his deputy for a second term,” Fayose stated.

Describing the event as a “unique gathering,” Fayose noted the significance of having all former governors, state leaders, and National Assembly members from Ekiti in attendance.

He said their collective presence was a show of unity and a sign of political maturity.

Fayose, who stated that he is not a member of the All Progressives Congress, said his support was based on performance rather than party loyalty.

“I am not a member of his party and I will never be, but I stand here to say I have seen the good work. I commend Governor Oyebanji’s humility and leadership. He deserves another term,” he added.

Recalling his own political victories in Ekiti State, Fayose boasted about his previous electoral records, noting that he won across all 16 local government areas and 177 wards of the state.

He challenged Oyebanji to match that feat in future elections, describing it as a new benchmark.

“Who will, for the first time again, become the record holder to win in all the 16 local governments and all the 177 wards of Ekiti? That is taken for granted. But when we get to the field, we will contest,” Fayose said.

The former governor also praised the role of prominent political figures like Segun Oni, another former governor of the state, for fostering unity, and he congratulated recent decampees to the APC, urging more to follow suit.

“This unity is a model for all states in Nigeria,” he added.

The former governor also mocked PDP members defecting to the APC, saying, “I congratulate all the decampees; they should continue decamping. It’s a good thing as long as this governor returns for a second term. It doesn’t matter how many decampees come over except me, I’m coming nowhere.”

Fayose’s endorsement comes amid renewed efforts by APC leaders in the state to consolidate support for the Tinubu administration and Oyebanji’s leadership ahead of the 2027 polls
