Ex-Kaduna councillor picks APC forms for Assembly race
A former councillor of Katari Ward in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Yahaya Maigida, has joined the race for the Kaduna State House of Assembly after purchasing the All Progressives Congress nomination and expression of interest forms.
Maigida’s move signals his formal entry into the contest to represent Kachia Constituency, as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Speaking in an interview on Friday, the former councillor said his decision to join the race was driven by a desire to deepen grassroots representation and address pressing challenges affecting his constituents.
“I have listened to the concerns of our people over the years, and I believe the time has come to provide a stronger voice for Kachia at the state assembly,” he said.
He added that his experience in local governance had prepared him to deliver effective representation if elected.
“Having served at the grassroots level, I understand the realities our people face daily, from infrastructure deficits to issues of security and youth unemployment. These are challenges that require practical legislative attention,” Maigida stated.
On why he chose to run under the APC platform, he said the party provides a viable structure to actualise his vision for the constituency.
The APC offers a platform that connects leadership with the people. I am confident that through this platform, we can pursue policies that will bring development closer to our communities,” he said.
Maigida also emphasized the need for unity and issue-based politics as the election season approaches.
“This is not the time for division. It is a time for us to come together, engage constructively, and focus on solutions that will improve the lives of our people,” he added.
He further calls for cohesion and internal democracy as aspirants intensify consultations and mobilization efforts ahead of the primaries.
Report that Maigida’s entry into the race adds to the growing list of contenders positioning themselves for legislative seats, underscoring what analysts describe as an early start to political maneuvering in Kaduna State.
