DSS rescues abducted Kano LG secretary, arrests two
The Kano State Government has confirmed the rescue of the Administrative Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area, Alhaji Hamza Durya, days after he was abducted by suspected kidnappers.
Durya was abducted on Friday night at his residence in Durya village, Kibiya Local Government Area, when gunmen stormed the area and whisked him away.
Security sources had earlier disclosed that the attackers, numbering about six, arrived on motorcycles and carried out the operation swiftly without firing any shots.
Eyewitnesses said family members were present during the incident but were left unharmed as the assailants targeted only the victim.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, the government said operatives of the Department of State Services carried out a coordinated operation that led to the victim’s rescue and the arrest of two suspects.
The statement added that the suspects sustained gunshot injuries during the operation.
This is a welcome development and a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our security agencies,” the statement read.
The government commended the DSS and other security agencies for their swift response, noting that the success reflects the effectiveness of ongoing security strategies across the state.
“The achievement underscores the impact of sustained efforts to combat criminal activities across the 44 local government areas of Kano State,” it added.
The government also lauded Governor Abba Yusuf for providing support and resources to security agencies to enhance their operational capacity.
It reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
“Public cooperation remains vital in strengthening the overall security architecture of the state,” the statement said.
