Delta vigilante killed by kidnappers he was tracking

A vigilante member in the Okpanam community area of the Delta State capital, Mr Samuel Okoro, has been shot dead by kidnappers.
News gathered that the kidnappers had abducted their victims in the community on Sunday and moved them into the bush.
It was learnt that the vigilante member, who saw the kidnappers in the bush and started trailing them, unbeknownst to him that they had seen him, was unfortunately shot dead.
The police public relations officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the killing and urged other vigilante members to always inform the police.
He said, “Yes, the man is a vigilante in Okpanam and was killed by kidnappers. We were told that Mr Okoro saw the kidnappers in the bush and was trailing them before they shot him.
“So, we are advising others to always inform the police and not to go after kidnappers or armed robbers alone.”
Meanwhile, there had been a series of kidnappings and killings around Okpanam and Issele-Azagba in recent times in the state capital, as farmers have abandoned their farms for fear of being kidnapped or killed.
