Betta Edu pledges grassroots mobilisation after Tinubu backs women’s bills
Former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, has pledged to sustain grassroots mobilisation across Nigeria after President Bola Tinubu promised to support proposed bills aimed at increasing women’s representation in elective and appointive positions.
Edu, the Director of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, gave the assurance after Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to the proposed legislation, according to a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Thursday.
The President spoke during the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he acknowledged the role of women in political mobilisation and democratic development.
“You women are the greatest mobilisers and foot soldiers of our democracy,” Tinubu said
He urged women leaders to intensify advocacy for the six bills, expressing confidence that their efforts would produce results.
Go and work for them, and I assure you that they will come to fruition,” the President said.
Speaking in an interview after Tinubu’s remarks, Edu thanked the President for his commitment to advancing women’s participation in governance, describing the proposed legislation as an important step towards improving their representation.
She also pledged to strengthen grassroots structures and engage women across communities under the supervision of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Edu said women would reciprocate the President’s gesture through sustained mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
