Attendee raises concern as Nigeria’s booth stands empty at TICAD9 in Japan

The Nigeria exhibition booth at the ongoing ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development TiCAD9has drawn criticism after it was found unmanned.
The incident was brought to public attention on Wednesday by a participant at the event, Idris Bello, who shared a video and pictures of the empty booth on X (formerly Twitter).
Tweeting as #idrisayobello, Bello wrote, “I hate to show negative things about Nigeria but it is sad that Nigeria is the only unmanned booth at TICAD9 in Japan. Upon all the folks who probably got estacode for coming to Japan
“Only God knows how many Japanese folks have asked me about the unmanned booth seeing my dressing.
So ashamed I have now designated myself as Honorary Consul and taken over the booth to engage visitors.”
that President Bola Tinubu had earlier arrived in Tokyo on Monday ahead of the summit which holds from August 20 to 22, 2025.
During the conference, Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral meetings and engage with the chief executives of Japanese companies investing in Nigeria.
