Amotekun arrests five suspects for robbery, assault in Ogun

The Ogun State Security Network, otherwise called Amotekun Corps, has arrested five suspects in connection with a violent case of robbery, assault, and malicious damage on two tricycle riders along the Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway around 02:30hrs on Monday
The suspects, according to a statement signed by the Corps Commander, Brig Gen Alade Adedigba rtd and made available to journalists on Tuesday, include Clement Samuel ‘m’, (30); Clement Monday ‘m’, (23); Olabode Yusuf ‘m’, (36); Sodipo Taiwo ‘m’, (34); and Ogunsakin Yemisi Opeyemi ‘f’ (22).
They were all said to have been arrested in the early hours of Monday following a coordinated patrol led by Ifo Command Coordinator, Omotunde Dotun.
The arrest of the suspects was said to have been triggered by a credible intelligence of a robbery at Apomu, along Lagos/Abeokuta expressway during when Dada Oluwaseun (29) and Oluwajuwonlo Moshood (24), were violently attacked while performing their lawful duties as tricycle operators.
This subsequently led to the arrest of the five suspects at Oke-Lemo in Papalanto and Apomu, in the Ifo and Ewekoro local government areas of Ogun State.
The statement party reads that “The victims later identified Olabode Yusuf and Clement Samuel as the primary perpetrators, both of whom have previously been involved in criminal activities in the area,
“They recounted a harrowing experience where they were attacked by the suspects, who fired a locally-made pistol and shattered their tricycle windshields, leading to severe injuries and the loss of valuables, including mobile phones and cash.
Items stolen by the suspects included two sophisticated Samsung and iPhone telephone sets, and raw cash totaling N40,000.
“The magnitude of the criminals’ actions is further demonstrated by the destructive damage inflicted on the victims’ tricycles and the psychological trauma endured.
“Upon further investigations, the suspects, identified as “customs camp boys,” were found to be in possession of a locally-made pistol, charms, and a jackknife, which were allegedly used in the commission of the crime.”
Meanwhile, the Corps Commandant has commended the bravery and diligence of its operatives in foiling the robbery attack and apprehending the suspects.
He described the arrest as a significant victory in the fight against criminal activities in the State and further assured the public that it would continue in its efforts to restore safety and security in all communities.
All evidence and case documents were said to have been transferred to the appropriate police authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
