Alleged kidnapper arrested during Hajj pilgrims screening

ecurity operatives have arrested a man alleged to be a kidnapper at the Hajj camp in the Federal Capital Territory.

The incident occurred during the screening of intending pilgrims scheduled to be airlifted to Saudi Arabia for this year’s pilgrimage.

A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the arrest but could not specify the agency responsible.

“Yes, one of the pilgrims was arrested by security operatives. But they took him away. I can’t say if they are DSS or not. He was arrested during the screening exercise for pilgrims, after which they would be airlifted to Saudi Arabia. What we heard was that he is a kidnapper,” the source said.

When contacted, the spokesman for the FCT Hajj Commission, Mohammed Aliyu, said he was not aware of any such arrest.

“I am not aware of any arrest at our camp in FCT,” he said.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, were unsuccessful, as she neither picked up calls to her line nor responded to messages sent to her.

The Department of State Services could not also be reached as of the time of filing this report.
