Again, bomb blast on Maiduguri Damboa road claims two lives
At least two people were confirmed dead after a car carrying passengers was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Boko Haram insurgents along the Maiduguri-Damboa road in Borno State.
The explosion occurred on Monday. Two passengers were confirmed killed while two others sustained various degrees of injuries and were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
The road, a supply corridor of perishable goods into Maiduguri, the state capital, has been targeted by militants using IEDs against civilians and security forces.
This recent incident follows an April 12 attack on a commercial bus on the same road, which killed eight passengers and injured others.
A security source said that military clearance operations are needed before the rainy season complicates detection of IEDs efforts.
“Recent blasts on the Damboa-Maiduguri axis show the problem,’ the source said.
‘To advance into areas like Sambisa Forest, troops must clear IEDs from roads.”
The source noted militants mark bomb sites with objects like shoes or money to avoid their own traps while misleading others.
Terrorists abduct retired Immigration Officer
Meanwhile, suspected Boko Haram terrorists have abducted a retired Immigration Officer identified as Sheikh Gaji Maina Kara alongside two other passengers while traveling on the Biu-Damaturu Road in Yobe State.
Sources within the family confirmed that the abduction occurred on Saturday morning near Kama Village.
A family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the retired Immigration officer was returning from Mubi, Adamawa State where he had visited his family, when the attack took place.
“He’s my brother but I am not in a position to disclose this officially, but the news is all over. I believe the security agencies will issue a statement in due course,” the source said.
Another source from the family also told that the driver of the bus narrated that the attackers ambushed them while returning from Biu to Damaturu where the three passengers were abducted.
