Top seed Khadijat Mohammed advanced to the quarter-finals of the 46th CBN National Men’s and Open Tennis Championship after defeating Mary Godwin 6-1, 6-2 in their third-round women’s singles encounter on Wednesday.

Mohammed will face Aina Goodnews in the last eight after the latter eliminated Emmanuella Kevin-Bebe with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 victory in her third-round clash.

Rebecca Ekpeyong joined them in the quarter-finals following a hard-fought 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Patience Onebamhoin in the women’s singles category.

In the men’s singles, top seed Adeleye Daniel received a walkover after Endurance Ehigiemusoe retired at 4-1 down in the opening set.

The men’s quarter-final lineup was completed by Oparaoji Uche, who defeated Ibrahim Suleiman 6-2, 6-3, and Lucky Danjuma, who comfortably beat Mohammed Andulsalam 6-1, 6-1.

Prosper Okonkwo survived a scare against Dahiru Mohammed, prevailing 7-6, 7-6 in a thrilling encounter, whilst Abubakar Yusuf booked his quarter-final berth when Chima Michael retired at 5-0 down.
