Abia gov to rehabilitate school, road in Ironsi’s community

Following an appeal by Ndume Otuka community in Umuahia North Local Government Area, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has directed the Chairman Abia State Universal Basic Education to commence the process of rehabilitating the Ibeama Primary School, the primary attended by a former Military Head State, late General Aguiyi Ironsi.

Otti also directed the Commissioner for Works, Otumchere Oti, to inspect the community road of the late head of state with a view to rehabilitating it.

The governor gave the directives on Saturday while responding to requests made by the community leaders of Ndume Otuka during a civic reception organised in honour of the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Austin Nmeregini.

Otti noted that his government is carrying out a comprehensive rehabilitation of all schools in the state, stating, “We have taken notes of the request that was made by the elder statesman. The first one is the road that leads to General Irons’s house. I will detail the Commissioner for Works to go and have a look and come back to me.

The second one is about the school. We are carrying out a comprehensive rehabilitation of all the schools in the state. And I believe that this is not left out.

“The chairman of the state universal basic education board is hereby given an instruction to come back here by Monday and begin to look at how we will fast track the rehabilitation of the school.”

Otti thanked them for their recognition of all the positive impact his government is making in the state and their promise to support him and all Labour Party candidates in the 2027 elections.

In their goodwill messages, the President-General of Ndume Otuka Development Union, Okezie Onyemauwa, and Chimezie Ndukwe commended the governor for his people-oriented policies and developmental strides across the state, noting that his administration has restored hope and confidence among the people through the delivery of impactful projects and good governance.

They pledged their unwavering support and loyalty to Otti, assuring him that they are solidly behind his reelection bid in the 2027 general election

Responding, Nmeregin noted that the majority of those that anchored the event were in opposition as at 2023, noting that the reason for their support to the event was because of the transformational leadership Otti has brought into Abia and congratulated those that joined the Labour party, assuring, “together we shall continue to support the transformational leadership of Governor Otti.”

In a vote of thanks, the Chief host of the reception and Chairman Kingsoo Global Maritime limited, Chief Kingsley Offor, appreciated Otti for his transformational leadership in the state, noting that the community decided to host Nmeregini because of his impactful representation and assured that they would ensure the Governor is reelected in 2027.
