Abducted Ondo APC chieftain killed by kidnappers

Authorities in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State have declared a three-day mourning period in honour of Nelson Adepoyigi, the slain APC Ward 5 Chairman, who was recently abducted and killed by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
BusinessDay gathered that the deceased was killed by his abductors despite payment of ransom by his family.
Recall that Adepoyigi was abducted at his residence located along Ifon-Owo Road in Ifon, the headquarters of Ose local government, last week Monday.
The kidnappers, who had initially demanded a ransom of N100 million from his family, subsequently reduced it to N5 million after negotiations.
Two individuals who took the ransom to the kidnappers were themselves abducted by the hoodlums with a fresh demand of N30 million for their release.
It was, however, gathered that the kidnappers later shot the APC chieftain dead and freed the two other victims on Friday evening.
Chairman of the council, Kolapo Ojo, who confirmed the incident, declared that the three-day mourning period in honour of Adepoyigi is scheduled to run from Monday, May 19, to Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
According to Ojo, all flags within government premises in the local council are to be flown at half-mast to reflect the collective grief of the people.
In addition, official activities involving the office of the Chairman have been suspended, while all government-related events will be held in a subdued manner in honour of the deceased.
Adepoyigi was widely acknowledged as a loyal party man and a passionate advocate for community development in Ose.
Residents of the council have been enjoined to observe the mourning period with decorum and solidarity with the bereaved family.
