2027: Tinubu holds ‘secret formula for merger’, Enang dismisses opposition

A former presidential aide and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ita Enang, has dismissed ongoing talks of a political merger by opposition figures to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, insisting that such efforts are doomed to fail.

Enang made this assertion while speaking to journalists in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Thursday.

He stated that only President Tinubu holds the “formula and secrets” that led to the successful merger of opposition parties in 2013, which gave birth to the APC and ultimately dislodged the Peoples Democratic Party from power in 2015.

“The formula and secrets of the merger remain with President Bola Tinubu; now that he has not released the secret, how will those intending to float a merger manage to succeed?” he asked.

He praised Tinubu’s strategic leadership and described him as a visionary democrat who understands the intricacies of party politics and governance.

According to him, Tinubu’s political foresight is so sharp that, “he will even create an opposition party against himself so that he can get to feel the reaction of the people and make the necessary adjustments for the interest of the people.”

Enang, who once served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, also commended the wave of political realignments that have seen members of opposition parties decamp to the APC.

He noted that the defection of governors and top lawmakers to the ruling party demonstrates growing confidence in Tinubu’s leadership.

“From the Senate, the House of Representatives, governors, commissioners, and state legislatures, everyone is now joining the APC,” he said.

The APC stalwart also welcomed the defection of the Akwa Ibom State governor from the PDP, assuring that the ruling party would accommodate all new entrants.

“We assure the governor of Akwa Ibom State and the entire delegation from the PDP that we will work with them to ensure a conducive atmosphere to promote the ideals of the APC,” he said.

Enang went on to congratulate the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, a former PDP governor who played a key role in merging the party’s structures into the APC in Akwa Ibom.

He highlighted President Tinubu’s support for Akpabio’s emergence as Senate President, stating, “The governor is appreciative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support for the emergence of Senate Godswill Akpabio as president of the Senate.”
