2027: APC PCC confers ‘field marshal’ title on Kebbi gov
The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, has conferred the political title of Kaigama (Field Marshal) on Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, in recognition of his contributions to the party and his political leadership.
The title was announced by a member of the campaign council, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, during the council’s visit to Kebbi State as part of its nationwide consultations with traditional rulers ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a statement on Tuesday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Zuru, the honour was in recognition of Idris’s commitment to the APC, resilience in governance and political mobilisation.
The Yari-led delegation visited Kebbi to pay homage to the Emir of Gwandu and Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar, and seek his prayers ahead of the commencement of campaign activities.
The delegation was received at the Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi, by a large crowd led by Governor Idris.
The reception continued at the Emir’s palace, where traders, farmers, traditional dancers and praise singers gathered to welcome the visitors.
The Emirs of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Mera; Yauri, Dr Zayyanu Abdullahi; and Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Gomo III, were also present.
Speaking during the visit, Yari said the delegation came to pay homage to the traditional ruler and seek his prayers for guidance before the commencement of political campaigns.
Responding, the Emir of Gwandu thanked the delegation and urged politicians to conduct peaceful campaigns ahead of the elections.
At the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Yari expressed satisfaction with the reception accorded the delegation, describing it as exceptional.
He said the reception was the first of its kind since the council began its nationwide visits to traditional rulers.
Yari attributed the APC’s dominance in Kebbi to Governor Idris’s leadership, describing the governor as a major force behind the party’s political strength in the state.
He also praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying its performance in the last three years had justified calls for another term in office.
In his remarks, Governor Idris attributed the APC’s strength in Kebbi to the contributions of prominent party leaders and stakeholders, including former Governor and Senator Adamu Aliero, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu, former Governor Sa’idu Nasamu Dakingari and Senator Yahaya Abdullahi.
He said the party had also benefited from development projects executed by his administration, which he claimed had positively changed the state’s development trajectory.
Idris expressed confidence that the forthcoming campaign visit to the state would be largely ceremonial, insisting that the people were already looking forward to the 2027 elections.
It was during the meeting that Senator Sheriff announced the conferment of the Kaigama title on the governor, with the approval of the campaign council’s chairman.
The announcement was greeted as recognition of Idris’s political commitment and efforts to strengthen the APC in Kebbi State.
