Wesco Lottery Celebrates 20Years Anniversary

The Nigeria popular lottery company, Wesco Pools and Sport Betting, recently celebrated its 20-years of existence with funfair at its head office, Adekoya street, Bolade Oshodi, Lagos State.
It was an event that featured the celebration of long standing achievements of the company along side presentation of appreciation gifts and reward to the diligent staff and agents by the Chief Executive Officer and Director of the company, Otunba (Barr.) Moses Adewale Osinubi.
Speaking at the gathering, the Chairman and Director of the company, Otunba (Barr.) Moses Adewale Osinubi, Wesco Pools, disclosed that the 20-years journey of the betting company had undoubtedly been tough, though very fruitful and rewarding venture.
He explained his courage and never-say-die spirit coupled with the backing of the Almighty God has been his saving grace.
Speaking with The Issues Magazine correspondent in Lagos, Barrister Oshinubi asserted that the journey which he began as a betting agent has now grown to become a household name company today in Nigeria.
He said, “When I was retrenched from the public service I felt that was the end of the world, I looked inward for something I could do with a very little amount of money with my savings.
“I rented a small shop apartment putting, get some benches with some casting papers; I look for a promoter that I could partner with and that was how I became an agent to one of the promoters in Edo-State, and that was how the Wesco lottery business started.
“I want to thank God for everything because, to be a successful businessman in Nigeria, especially at this point in time has never been a joke”.
The lottery boss disclosed that one of the major challenges confronting the business is the issue of multiple taxes by government agencies.
According to him, “There are double taxations, because the local government will come for tax, the state will come for tax like wise the federal government. Almost all the states are collecting revenue in form of taxation, their staff will come and collect taxes, we’ll pay to the national trust funds, we’ll pay to the national lottery among others, including area boys.
“During the period when there was naira scarcity, the sales dwindled, because its like everywhere there was no money, when someone doesn’t have money to eat how will he have money for gambling?
“It was really difficult, because up till now as I speak, we’re yet to overcome those obstacles been caused by the Naira scarcity of the former Governor of CBN’s policy”, the CEO asserted.
