We did not force her, she consented to it — One of alleged gang rapists
AN 18-year-old boy, Qayum (surname withheld) who, along with others, was alleged to have gang raped a 16-year-old girl (name withheld), has denied the accusation, saying that it was the girl who was fond of intimacy with males, and was the one who showed interest in those who wanted to have sexual relationship with her.
Qayum, along with three others, was arrested by the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for gang raping the 16-year-old girl, which resulted in pregnancy and subsequent abortion.
The other suspected rapists are Azim and Mutiu (surnames withheld).
Not only that, a 23-year-old unlicensed nurse, Oyindamola, who allegedly committed illegal abortion on the teenager was also arrested by the NSCDC.
They were paraded along with others for various offences by the NSCDC Commandant, Augustine Padonu, at the weekend.
The Commandant told journalists that after the girl got pregnant, the alleged rapists got an unlicensed nurse who committed an illegal abortion for her to terminate the pregnancy before their misdeeds were exposed.
However, when the Nigerian Tribune interviewed Qayum, he claimed that the girl consented to the sexual relationship he and his friends had with her. He accused the girl of being a nymphomaniac who loves sleeping around with many men which he and his friends also took advantage of.
Qayum, a barber, who said that he started dating the girl few months ago, narrated: “We met at Eegbinola area and started dating. She is my girlfriend. One day, I took her to my friend’s place to sleep with her and when we entered the place, two of my friends were outside.
“We were yet to do anything when she asked that I allow my friends to enter, so I called them in. They were Fawaz and Azim. When they entered, we stated talking and one of my friends asked if she would allow the three of us to sleep with her, but she said no. She later said if my friends would buy food for her, she would allow us. My friend then went to buy meat pie. First, two of us slept with her in turns. It was at noon. I didn’t ejaculate in her.
“After we were done, she asked for our third friend and he came and also slept with her. Afterwards, I told her I was ready to go home and she said she was also ready too and she asked me to give her money and I said I didn’t have money. So my friends said we should gather money and we gave her N1000.
“One day, I met one neighbourhood brother, Mutiu, and I told him that the girl I am dating is so promiscuous that even if she is offered N200, she would allow anyone sleep with her, then Brother Mutiu said I should call her and I went to call her. I took her to his house. It was later that I got to know that she became pregnant.
We noticed the pregnancy was about two to three months, and I said I don’t know anything about it. Even when I took her to my friends, it was less than a month from that time and when they said she would abort the pregnancy, I immediately opted out. I had slept with her once before the one I did with my friends.”
Another suspect, Mutiu, aged 43, and a driver, also narrated his involvement: “I met one of my younger friends, Qayum, and he said he had a girl he wanted to introduce to me, so I said he should go and bring her. I didn’t even know he would return that day because it was already past 10:00 p.m.
“When he came with the girl, I told her I would like to date her and she said no problem. When we entered the house, I asked her if I could sleep with her, she also gave her consent. We had sex that night. When she was leaving in the morning, I gave her N1000.
“The following day, Qayum who introduced her to me said she told him that she wanted to know me as she could not recognise me because it was dark when she came to my house. So, when she came, I realised she was so young. She said she is in JSS 3 and that she is 16 years old.
“That was when I remembered that Qayum said those who sleep with her only give her N200 after the act. She then said she wanted to be coming to my house and I agreed, so she would come, sometimes, I would be at home, and sometimes I would be away. I asked about her parents and she her mother had left her since she was young and that her father is a butcher who returns home by 11:00 p.m.
“When she was with me, she told me that she menstruates on the ninth or 11th of every month, but on this particular month, I expected her to menstruate but she didn’t and that was when I had to force her to leave my house. Eventually, I looked for a nurse and took her there to get rid of the fetus.”
Oyindamola also confessed to have injected the pregnant girl in addition to giving her drugs in order to abort the fetus.
Commandant Padonu assured the public that all suspects would be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations.
He urged the good people of Oyo State to report any suspicious activities to NSCDC or other security agencies.
