The Painful Exit Of Abiola Ajimobi, The Story Of A Former Extraordinary Governor

As I picked my phone to dish out my condolence message and opinion about the person and political ideology of Late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, I began to ask myself what I stand to gain since I’m not a politician or one of those that ate from his political desk.

But as a journalist and a political analyst who had praised and castigated some of Late Ajimobi’s policies while he was the ‘Constituted Authority’ of Oyo State, I deserved to say something because I have seen something.

By the way, were you able to meet ‘Aji-bobo, Oko Florii Baby’ when he was alive? Meeting Senator Ajimobi means a meeting with an embodiment of a personality loaded with great ideas, orator, administrator, organizer, to mention but few.

Ajimobi came to the corridor of power in Oyo State when the security architecture of the state was in worrisome situation because of the interference of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state and some other political influences.

His emergence as Oyo State Governor solved this problem with the ‘operation burst’ he introduced in the state. Take it or leave it, Boda Siaka knows tried his best in the then insecurity in Oyo State. When it comes to providing adequate security, consult Ajimobi’s security policy – an advice to the current administration in the state.

The coming of Ajimobi introduced the 13th month salary which made many state to consider Oyo State as a ‘true pace setter’. He built the second over head bridge, constructs many roads in the state capital of Ibadan, revitalization of Oyo State anthem among other related achievements in his government.

In a nutshell, let me start by saying Ajimobi was a special creation of God who had what it takes to better the lot of any society he find himself. Having the like of Ajimobi in Oyo State ought to be a blessing to the state, instead of what the state has suffered under his nose as a Governor of the state.

However to say, Ajimobi began his journey as a governor of the state well, but lost people’s favour because of some of his anti-people’s policies. If Ajimobi had continued with the tempo he began his governance journey with, he would have been the best governor that Oyo State ever had due to his achievements in some quarters.

At this junction, I will love to say this to everyone reading this short piece that we are all writing history for ourselves on daily basis and subsequently asking you about what we shall loved to be remembered for.

Senator Ajimobi would be greatly missed.
May God give the family and friends the fortitude to bear their loss.
