SANUSI SULE, A GRASSROOTs POLITCIAN WITH PASSION FOR HIS CONSTITUENCY

Hon. Sanusi Sule is contesting for the Federal House of Representatives under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) come 2019.

One unique thing about this dynamic politician is his strong confidence in his party “PDP”. Ask him whether PDP will win the 2019 Gubernatorial election in Ogun State, Presidential Poll at Federal level and other viable elective seats, Sanusi Sule would tell you confidently that PDP will win.

Sanusi Sule is said to be a grassroots politician and no doubt, will be a viable instrument in the hands of PDP as a party in Ogun State. The Ijebu-Ife born politician is a real master planner and strategic mapper in politics who indeed knows his onions.

Born in Ijebu-Ife about 40years ago, Hon. Sanusi Sule grew up under the care of loving parents and community people whose affection taught him the basic lessons of community bond. He had a very deep affection for his people and had always nursed the passion of leading them to the promised land.

He attended St. Louis Primary School Ijebu-Ife, Ijebu Community Grammar School and later proceeded to Tai Solarin University of Education where he studied Sociology.

He currently works in Omo-Wood Industry as a manager. During Otunba Gbenga Daniel administration as Governor of Ogun State, Sanusi Sule was a Councilor in Ijebu-East Local Government, representing Ward 1 which covers Ijebu-Ife.

He proved himself worthy among his people and used his office well, got closer to his people and worked together with them. He was reported to have been the best Councilor ever in Ijebu East Local Government during this time. His administrative plus as he laid off pride and put on the mantle of humility and friendship, relating well with the people.

During the time, he performed wonderfully well and left a memorable impression of lovable service on the mind of his people that they always want him to come back for the people, whatever level of leadership, Sanusi Sule desires, they are ready to give him the ample support.

In 2015, he contested for the Ogun State House of Assembly under the Labour Party but due to the party’s structure, he lost the election. If PDP wins, Sanusi Sule would win full stop; if the people choose him to represent them, then he is the right man for the job. If PDP considers him as a choice, then he is the best candidate for his constituency. However, what is quite evident about him is that he is a grassroots politician. Yes, Sanusi Sule is a grassroots politician and he would, no doubt use his grassroots prowess and strategies on the winning side.

Sanusi Sule is well known by the people in the locality, perhaps due to his closeness, as a grassroots politician.

Sanusi Sule’s grassroots politics is all embracing. The people in his community have been frequently interacted with and have become the basis of his political success and economic progress. He has simply galvanized people for collective action at the local level to effect change, in a slight advancement, incorporates the regional course. His bottom-up activities rather than the top-down decision making, could be best considered as more natural and balanced with the people using the sequence of self-organisation. Sanusi Sule has been able to encourage community members to take responsibility and take action for their community. This, he had demonstrated with his people at Ijebu-Ife.

Sanusi Sule’s energy over the years has been chiefly directed to participatory democracy, vigorously campaigned by him to create a more equitable society.

For him there is no metaphorical obscurity but a transparent conscience for leadership. Saddled with responsibilities to best polish and convey grassroots politics with matched strategies, he is employing the basic grounding approach for a campaign that values mass advocacy.

Sanusi, having studied the socio-economic problems of his people, felt the need to provide solution through his leadership, thus starting at the root of the problem and building upwards to reach a solution. Sanusi’s prowess is best seen in his ability to organize people into group that would be most affected by the change to generate excitement and energy for the cause, perhaps what is quite visible here is “self-democracy” which Sanusi has been using among his people to create substance and passion. No wonder, he is much loved by the people.

In addition, Sanusi has been to build power and synergy among the people, using tactics. He simply derives his strength from the people to whom he has shown affection over the years. This has been well demonstrated by Sanusi’s listening ears and charitable gesture to their cause.

Other viable measures for which Sanusi keeps using are various grassroots agenda; he is seeking to strategically engage ordinary people in political discourse to the greatest extent.

As part of his strategies, he has been *hosting house meetings *having larger meetings (AGMs) * mobilizing letter-writing, phone calling and emailing campaigns *gathering signatures for petitions * talking with pedestrians on the street or working door-to-door (often involving informational clip-roads) *setting up information tables * inspiring, organizing and taking part in demonstrations. Above all is the use of social media in promoting political cause.

As a grassroots politician, for Sanusi, rural community is his comfort zone. This is where he hails from and the implication is that he is well strategically and consciously positioned to assist the people in his constituency overcome the acute marginalization, deprivation to which they have been subjected.

Although he is only jostling for a seat in the Green Chamber, where laws are made, Sanusi still feels more pressurized to influence the execution of projects in his constituency and lead in such executions of good motorable roads, school, hospital, market, water, among other amenities. He is set to put smile on the faces of his people, ignite happiness in them.

Sanusi Sule wishes to use his position to make laws that are geared towards the emancipation of the less privileged and downtrodden, laws that will protect the rights of the citizens and best bring his constituency to limelight.
