Sanitation Laws: Ogun seal off Arigbajo Market for Violation By Femi Olayinka, Abeokuta.
Arigbajo market in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State has been sealed off by the State government for non-compliance with environmental laws.
The State Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga who ordered the closing down of the market while monitoring the August edition of the Monthly Sanitation exercise in Abeokuta North, Ewekoro and Ifo Local Government Areas, chided the market men and women who were caught transacting business while the exercise was going on.
Chief Onanuga said the various public enlightenment, education and enforcement exercises embarked upon by the State government was aimed at changing people’s attitudes from degrading the environment, maintaining that government would continue to enforce strict compliance of the environmental laws to ensure that people obey them.
While appealing to market men and women as well as shop and stall owners to voluntarily participate in cleaning their environment especially during the three hours monthly exercise, the State Deputy Governor ordered that no market should be opened on the monthly environmental day until 10am.
She commended the Chairman of Ifo Local Government Area, Hon. Akeem Bello for mobilising residents of the council for the exercise, admonishing the people to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the water ways and road median to prevent flooding and defacing the beauty of the State.
