Olujimi condemns Ekiti cult killings as police arrest 34 more suspects

Senator representing Ekiti South, Mrs. Biodun Olujimi, has condemned the killings of six persons in a cult clash at Ikere-Ekiti, Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

She spoke just as the Police Command stated 34 more suspects have been arrested in connection with Sunday’s bloody violence in the town.

Olujimi said hooliganism and cultism should not be a way of life and must be discouraged.

In a statement she personally signed in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain described the incident as condemnable, unacceptable and alien to the behavioral pattern of peace-loving people of Ekiti State.

Olujimi said the killings were worrisome, calling on security agencies to fish out the masterminds of the killings and ensure they face the full wrath of the law.

She urged security agencies to beef up security in the state, most especially in flashpoints to prevent the reoccurrence of such incidents, saying security is non-negotiable and must be guaranteed.

Ekiti police spokesman, ASP Sunday Abutu, said the combined team of security agencies drafted to the town had been able to restore peace to the town, while street patrol continues.

Abutu said 34 more suspects have been arrested making the total number of persons in police custody over the incident 45.

He said serious efforts are still ongoing to arrest other accomplices, unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring perpetrators to face the iron hand of the law.
