Ogun Govt. underscores need for a viable migration control system

As societies attain certain level of socio-economic development with noticeable growth in trade and commerce , the need for a viable migration control system has been emphasized.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun made this known at the official commissioning of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Passport front office, Sagamu in Sagamu Local Government Area of the State .

Abiodun who was represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako -Oyedele said Ogun remained one of the fastest growing economies, not only in Nigeria, but in the entire West Africa sub-region adding that the continued growth of already existing businesses and increased inflow of Investment came with the attendant rise in the influx of people.

“With regards to trade and commerce, Ogun State is fast attaining a mega status. Trade and commerce in Ogun State will continue to take an international dimension, which means that our people will in addition to local business partnerships also build business partnerships across international borders.

“This is where the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Passport Office in particular, come in, because there will be need for more international travel to build new international business partnerships and strengthen already existing ones which will boost technological transfer and ease the expansion of investment and growth of business” Abiodun stated.

The Governor , however commended the Comptroller General for his leadership styles in controlling the influx of criminals across the porous borders, noting that the establishment of additional Passport Office in the state was a pointer to the readiness and commitment of the people of the state to the successful implementation of the” building our future together” agenda.

In his remarks at the event, the Comptroller General of NIS, CG Muhammad Babandede who was represented by ACG Mohammed Alhaji Alfa said the Federal Government has been magnanimous enough to approve the proposals for 10 year E-passport and the establishment of Sagamu passport front office, adding that nothing less than a corresponding performance and commitment to duty was expected from officers of the command. He therefore warned officers to shun indolence and corruption.

Earlier in his opening speech, Ogun State Comptroller, Muhammed Harande, said the conception of the Sagamu front office came during the 2017 Comptroller General of Immigration annual conference, held in the state in 2017, stating that the new front office commissioned was designed as a strong contribution of the NIS towards making life easier for all residents of the state.

Dignitaries at the event included the former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, HRM Oba Babatunde Ajayi, Asiwaju of Remoland, Asiwaju Samuel Kayode Onafowokan amongst others.
