Ogun 2019: Agitation For Free Education Is A Mere Scam, Says Ogunbanjo
Ademola Ogunbanjo, the Ogun State Governorship candidate of the Alliance For New Nigeria in the coming 2019 gubernatorial election has reacted to the mission of some political parties in the State on free education by all standard, saying it’s a mere scam.
Ogunbanjo in his argument with our correspondent at his party secretariat in Ijebu-Igbo on Saturday, pointed out that there is no money to fund education in the country. He ascertained that the free education mission by some parties in the State is not possible, thus insisted that, for the country to have a qualitative education, it must be paid for by the people.
He said, “Government must take proactive step on the health and education sectors, ensure that everybody get proper health care service delivery”.
He further stated that one of the problems we have in Nigeria is government making promises that education would be free. Ogunbanjo ascertained that it’s just an act of politicians playing to the gallery with the mission of deceiving the people with the free education policy. In his view, the reality is that there cannot be free education and people expect qualitative education.
He maintained that one of the problems we also have is that there is no money to fund our education system, for our education to be qualitative, we must pay for it and when we pay we must see positive result
Ogunbanjo noted that we need to focus on training teachers, paying teachers their salaries as at when due and providing infrastructure in our schools.
“Whoever is saying they want to do free education is only deceiving the electorates, when I become the governor, the primary school would be free, but from our secondary school level, we would have a public school in each senatorial district which the government will spend money on and intelligent student would only be admitted in the school for free, our secondary schools would be rehabilitated, we would retrain our teachers and encourage them so that’s we can have positive productivity,” He concluded.
