LADI ADEBUTU AND 2023 OGUN GUBER VISION

There is an adage that says ‘charity begins at home’. In the political history of Ogun State today, the famous son of Sir Kesington Adebutu, Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu is an icon to be reckoned with. The history has it that immediately after the 2015 general elections, which secured a House of Representatives slot to the Ijebu business lottery magnate’s son, Ladi Adebutu as a member of the House of Representatives in Abuja who represented the people of Remo Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber, this opened the room to Ladi’s overwhelming popularity with influence in Ogun State as a whole.

It is the wish of Ogun indigenes that Ladi Adebutu become the next Governor of Ogun State due to his numerous developmental initiatives across the state, installing series of electricity supply to various communities among other empowerment programs for the youths and elders which began in the early 2016 and almost lasted for 3 years without interruption until 2019 gubernatorial election. The imbroglio of 2018 and 2019 that rocked the Peoples Democratic Party also contributed to many setbacks, which obviously prevented Ladi Adebutu in his quest to become the next Governor of the State.

It’s on records that Senator Buruji Kashamu with Bayo Dayo led excos saga was not left out in the whole show of history which contributed to the failure of Ladi Adebutu in the 2019 governorship race before he finally geared and diverted his followers to work in line with the Governorship candidate of Allied Peoples Movement party (APM) Adekunle Akinlade of Yewa who was the candidate of the then incumbent Governor, Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun Central.

As the matter rose up, eventually the people of Ogun State voted for the choice of Prince Dapo Abiodun who was sworn-in on May 29 in the year 2019 as the 5th executive Governor of Ogun State, but surprisingly enough, the 60% loyalists of Adebutu crossed carpet and supported the candidacy of Dapo Abiodun of APC in line with the former Governor of the State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel amongst his loyalists but the APM and other political parties dragged the victory of Abiodun to the Tribunal; but after all, God crowned Abiodun with total victory of all odds as elected Governor of the said March 2019 governorship election.

In the recent times, Honourable Ladi Adebutu stormed the ground to repackage and restructure his political family for the next 2023 governorship race, according to the findings revealed by our correspondent through a media outfit ‘GatewayTimes’ published a headline: “Ogun 2023: Ex-PDP Guber Aspirant Adebutu Regroups Loyalists, Plans To Take-Over Party From Kashamu’s Pointsman, Bayo Dayo. Adebutu recently bowed out from the National Assembly after his 4 years reign as the representative of the people of Remo Federal Constituency, having fought tooth and nail as well an epic legal battle to clinch the PDP guber ticket in the state but to no avail. The information from the media reveals that Adebutu committed over N8billion into his governorship bid with his multi-empowerment scheme; this gives a positive impression about him to the people of Ogun State. Apart from financial assistance to indigent people and various bodies, Adebutu distributed over 100 transformers across the local governments in a singular act seen as second to none in the history of the state. But all of these warm gestures executed to soften ground for his dream of becoming the number one citizen in the state became a mirage as his face-off with Prince Buruji Kashamu scuttled his ambition. Meanwhile both Adebutu and Kashamu were at a time, best of friends. Their relationship later went sour and all entreaties to unite them by various stakeholders even beyond the state could not hold water; information has it that, while Adebutu enjoyed the backing of the National Working Committee of the PDP, the Ogun State PDP excos led by Engr. Bayo Dayo only recognised Kashamu as the authentic standard bearer of the party in the state, the latest information is that Adebutu has made up his mind once again to give the 2023 a trial, although the winners of 2019 elections are just settling down in their respective offices. He was reported to have informed some of the key party chieftains and other loyalists of his readiness to start the journey early”.

In a nutshell, it is on records that Ogun East is presently producing the incumbent Governor of the state and the question begging for answer is, how will Ladi Adebutu scale through the storm in his 2023 gubernatorial race as the Governor Abiodun ascended from the same Ogun East senatorial district, waving the Ijebu/Remo agenda aside, where Ogun Central and West are also clamouring for the same position while the incumbent Governor Abiodun might wish to serve for second term for the completion of his assignment in the state as politicians usually reason. Will Ladi Adebutu govern the State in the next 12years with his present age?.

As we know that the Egbas and Yewas will never allow another candidate to rule after Abiodun of Ogun East must have govern for 8years before it can be rotated back to Ogun East senatorial district, will Abiodun’s chances give Ladi opportunity to govern the state in the 2023 Gubernatorial election? Anyway, only God can determine the next Governor of Ogun State in the 2023 governorship election. We wish Hon. Adebutu, Prince Abiodun and others that are clamouring for good governance of gateway state, those that might join the race in the future, we wish them well, Ogun State shall be great like other developed states.
