I know the secrets of Governor Ajimobi’s political success – Adesokan
* Says the ruling elite are not fair with the Nigerian state.
——————————————–
“Azeez Fatai Adesokan, a political researcher, in a chat with our correspondent in comemoration of his birthday on January 10th, believes that Nigeria can still gain economic and political liberation despite what the country is facing now. Excerpts:
——————————————–
* If you are to assess your life from primary school till your new age, would you say you are fulfilled or you still have a lot to struggle for?
Though, as a believer, being alive with sound health is a fulfillment on its own, the last time I took injection was in 1991 and I have not visited hospital not even for malaria since. So in terms of general fulfilment on aspirations of life, no I am not fulfilled in fact, but sad with the way things are in this country called Nigeria, the few ruling elites are not fair with Nigeria.
* Why are you sad with Nigeria or you’re no longer in APC ?
I am an APC man but, a disappointed one not because APC created Nigeria problem but, with due respect, APC government led by President Buhari and Oyegun seems not to have insight on how Nigeria can be run better. Politics aside, I am a Nigerian, I have relatives, friends, things are not working economically for our country.
Truth must be told, I just shake head often and laugh at my constituency.
“Which constituency?”
In every society or country, the youth are the nucleus and the society thrives on youth for productivity, intellectual disposition and inventions or innovations; but, Nigeria is not creating the enabling environment, talents are being demoted, mediocrity is the order of the day. Let me categorically state that 1.8 million sit for UTME yearly and available space both public and private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education is not up to 800,000. The youth in our tertiary institutions are not learning in conducive environment, the auditorium is jampacked for lectures, imagine engineering class being stuffy, medical class lecture is like Oshodi market where materials are lacking in our teaching hospitals, the youth that manage and graduate under this harsh academic environment are not gainfully employed, the ones employed are not paid due to liquidity problem in the economy, there is loss of jobs, entrepreneurs are not finding it easy.
* Some youth of today are into different social vices; drugs, kidnappings, robbery among others, tell us your perspective on this?
In every society there are always bad eggs, so we are talking of aspiring youth, quality-minded youth that are able and available in all spheres of life. The Nigerian society is killing their dreams and the smart ones abscond abroad where they are counted and their dreams are promoted. If things continue this way Azeez Fatai Adesokan might look exit door for greener pasture but all of us cannot stay outside the shore of this country, our country must work for better life for Nigerians. Nurses, doctors, educationist, financial guru, architects, engineers, artisans most of them thrive abroad in their chosen fields unlike if they are in Nigeria even footballers, our football league is something else in fact, sports alone, particularly football in this country if attended to can solve half of mass unemployment and our economic problems would come alive. We have a Minister for Youth and Sports and his achievement is beret cap and a former Minister for Sports, an articulated mind was sacked under PDP Jonathan because of Saraki decampment to APC, the same APC diminished the talented man to be their publicity secretary where he is not fit. When he was the Minster for sports, we all saw his achievement during Jonathan’s regime therefore, Nigerian state is an irony.
* After this birthday celebration, what are your expectations from God?
In “suratul fathia”, the Holy Qur’an says Allah is the righteous path guider, it is He I pray to guide me right and I pray for His uncommon goodness, longevity and good tidings in my endeavours and family at large.
* Are you in support of a school of thought that says Nigerian independence of 1960 was premature?
Absolutely no, it wasn’t premature, we didn’t consolidate on political freedom. The independence was blessing in disguise because, had it been the colonial masters stood longer, our cultural values, family ties, communal ways would have been eroded like South Africa. An average South African lady is a prostitute from Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape town; they are blessed with nice shapes at the back but, if you are not discipline as a man, you are in for HIV, larger percentage of HIV is in South Africa, their males are intellectually lazy, academically poor and non creative artisans. Nigerians are refrigerator repairers, car mechanics, electronic and IT technicians which informed xenophobic attack against Nigerians recently as they feel sad loosing their babes to Nigerians, their jobs to Nigerians. In actual sense 1960 independence preserved our ethics, culture or identity, so we gained in this regard because, I can’t allow my wife as a Yoruba woman to dress half nude and say is her human right despite she is a Barrister, she won’t even do that on her own “omoluabi” ethics that our culture protects.
* To you, what went wrong with Nigeria ?
From personal empirical political research, it signals to me, we got it wrong on Jan 15th 1966 needless military coup, I thank God not my birthday “Jan 10th” ; even though I wasn’t born then. Though the political class particularly old western region messed up due to political imbroglio between late Chief S.L. Akintola and Obafemi Awolowo of the then Action Group Party in 1959 which neccessiated “wetie” crises of 1962 and state of emergency was declared. Chief Awolowo was charged to court and sent to prison on treason, lost his son, then men in khaki struck but, the military shouldn’t have intervened at all then. We had counter coup in July 1966, civil war broke out in 1967 until 1970, Yakubu Gowon regime began to lose focus after the resignation of late visionary Chief Obafemi Awolowo as cabinet Vice President and minister for finance. Another coup took over in 1975 aided by TY Danjuma and Fulani wing of the supreme military council and Murtala Muhammed, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo surfaced in dodan barracks, six months later Murtala was assassinated by middle belt revolted military wing in the army headed by Dimka in solidarity to their kinsman Yakubu Gowon regime that was overthrown while in Kampala, Uganda. So military men suffocated Nigerians with decree upon decree, civil service was destabilised, police force was demystified on civil protections, institutions framework for governance were dismantled, unviable states were created.
* Who should be blamed for Nigeria’s current problem; Military or Politicians ?
Don’t mix it up, the military are the cause of Nigeria misfortune, the politicians escalated the misfortune and refuse to change the status quo inherited since. It also serves political elite interest, so the two classes are our albatrosses.
* What is the hope for APC in 2019?
APC as a party got it wrong from Eagle square because Mr. President was hijacked from the speech of I belong to nobody but belong to everybody! Has he now belonged to everybody? Exchange rate is no go area, there is loss in purchasing power, states could not pay salaries, school fees are not being fulfilled, there is liquidity problem in the economy. What was the experience Mrs. Kemi Adeosun garnered that earned her ministry of finance portfolio? Just because she was penciled down by an ally of President Buhari, the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle ‘’judas’’ Amosun,; you don’t run a country or organizations on emotional sentiment or attachments but, of ability and capacity. Senator Udo Udoma is even worse, he is a sound guy in his field as a lawyer and politician but, not a financial expert, he was given budget ministry on recommendation of Governor El-Rufai his ally, Udoma was PDP man till he lost election, Ibe Kachikwu of Petroleum Ministry is just a brilliant mind with boardroom experience not societal energy experience of a peculiar nature of Nigeria because, he is a private man all his life not a field man, a special adviser job is better for him. These three key ministries of petroleum, finance and budget are the financial blood vessels for Nigeria economic growth that will affect positively agric ministry, works, health, education and what have you and since we got it wrong, no results can be felt by the citizens. Aso Rock door was shut at the Political caterpilla, spearheaded by President Jonathan who was sent back to his home town, Otueke, Bayelsa in 2015. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has his minus but, you cannot deny him of God’s mercy, of his acumen in political consciousness, governance structure and template, human resources and eagle eye view on Nigerian projects. He was no longer consulted in running of governance structure that could skyrocket development as evidently practiced in Lagos as a Governor in the State. Lagos budget today stands at one trillion, thirty six billion, it was one Bola Tinubu that pathfined economic growth journey of Lagos.
Despite the foregoing, APC, fortunately would still win 2019 election, may God spare our lives because of docility, incoherence and lack of articulacy of the PDP. In fairness to Nigerians President Buhari did not really impress economic wise and it is excusable due to drop in crude in international market as our major source of revenue. Thank God it is now sixty dollars above but, do they have opposing choice? No. Because PDP missed the opportunity in their convention for Secondus to have emerged, the old guard of the PDP chairmanship candidate was defeated while the young Tursk chose Secondus.
* Why did you say PDP lost it, also described Gov. Ibikunle Amosun as Judas?
Governor Amosun of Ogun State is a “Judas”, he is a product of Asiwaju Tinubu political empire/largesse now changing colour to undermine Tinubu; his stake in APC and particularly Southwest, those in the know of underneath events of APC would understand my assertion better. Amosun and Governor El-Rufai ensured Tinubu’s candidate did not emerge as Kogi State Governor after demise of Prince Abubakar Audu. Hon. James Faleke was thrown down, despite they were aware Tinubu sponsored election of his late old friend Audu which made Audu to settle for Lagos imported Deputy Governorship candidate, the presidency or APC national did not support Prince Audu but only Senator Rabiu kwakwaso gave money to support his political friend.
Against all odds of Akinrogun, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Tinubu stood his ground and persuaded his agelong political right man in 2010 in defunct ACN just for Amosun to secure ticket and he did. He then released money to the party for the guber quest bearing in mind, Governor Gbenga Daniel was strong politically at that time but was cashed on split of interest between Obasanjo and Daniel where PDP and PPN flaunted candidates then ACN Amosun triumphed, so his second term Tinubu shielded him even in the face of Osoba protest, he was handed over party structure while SDP was floated by Osoba and other 3 senators and deputy though, it was wrong political move by Chief Osoba. Fayemi too is a Judas, Fashola case is special Judas.
Babatunde Fasola does not have 50 million naira in his bank account in 2006 when he was thrown up as Tinubu successor, quote me anywhere. Do you think is a child play to become Lagos State Governor? I was in the know all the ‘kangaroo’ defunct AC primary we did for Fashola, he did not remember he is SAN then, now after 8 years, you now sponsored guber candidates against Tinubu after you have told Tinubu you have no successor in mind. He nearly tarnished Ambode in the civil service before. Ambode ran to drop letter on excuse of going to Harvard University in 2013. PDP has lost it. We have four prominent critical Nigerian stakeholders or cabals if you care to call them, they took life out of PDP when President Jonathan began to fumble and they so decided back then, the Governor of Ekiti, Rivers and Delta shut the door at them and ignored directives of Professor Tunde Adeniran and some reputable personnel in the race and later declared Secondus as Chairman of the party during the just concluded National convention of the party.
* To you, who are these cabals as mentioned?
The former President Olusegun Obasanjo “Ebora-Owu”, General TY Danjuma, Maradona IBB and Abdulsalam Abubakar, but Obasanjo said he is now elder statesman; sincerely, it was a Political statement that he is no one defacto in Nigeria project, these four men are political gods in Nigeria today, they were the ones the Nigerian political caterpillar, Tinubu ran to and rallied them for Buhari. Buhari was not on talking terms with Obasanjo, IBB, Abdulsalam Abubakar and TY Danjuma pre 2015. So you can see Jonathan did not loose election to Buhari or APC alone? In 2011, Obasanjo had to call El-Rufai to link him up on phone with President Buhari when northern youth went on rampage’’’, killing corpers in Bauchi, Kastina when PDP and Jonathan won election in 2011, check El-Rufai, accidental public servant book.
* You are right, I read Gov. El-Rufai book as well. You seem to be a political mobile encyclopedia?
It’s GOD !
I know you are from Saki, Oyo State with Lagos connection. What is your view about Oke-Ogun Governorship man project?
I reserved my comment, do you want to set me up with my people ?
“In the spirit of birthday, let that be my birthday gift”…
* Barrister Adebayo Shittu, The minister for communication, Proffessor Adeolu Akande, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, Ahmed Raji SAN, Mr. Omodewu , Commissioner for lands, Senator Fatai Buhari are names from your side?.
Well, these are good names but, Senator Fatai Buhari is not from Oke-Ogun but Ogbomosho town; he only represents Oyo North Senatorial District at which covers 10 local governments of Oke-Ogun and 3 local governments of Ogbomosho; in politics, there are caucuses, I belong to Tinubu/Ajimobi caucus of APC and I am a political realist not sentimental or myopic. So permit my political judgement in this context of my political inclination of an achiever, Governor Abiola Ajimobi. I am an Ajimobist, Oke Ogun zone candidacy for Governor is not yet matured under APC and it would be politically catastrophic for Governor Ajimobi political empire comes 2019 to pick candidate outside Ibadan. I love my people of Oke-Ogun zone and truth must be told in realm of political possibility. I know Governor Ajimobi political success secret. Before you can become Governor or a loud successful man in life, three metaphysical things must have been settled in the spiritual realm because, spiritual controls the physical. One must have a good mother not necessarily lettered or rich but, good one in character to her husband even when the husband is not responsible, the compensation is from Allah with her children if not all a colossus in the chosen fields of human endeavor. Governor Abiola Ajimobi had good mother who aided his destiny on political journey of life, is not physical aid but, metaphysics. I do tell my wife to buy Al-Barka for her kids. Except with loyalty and good deeds, success don’t happen accidentally. Governor Ajimobi’s political success secret number two is his wife, behind every successful man, there must be a woman, not just any woman but, Mrs. Florence had been a likeminded wife to her husband “abi-initio”, so the political insinuation that his wife has hold of him is of jealousy of their matrimonial fantasy by opposition figure that, is only Ankara they flaunts. Number three of his political success is his star, the kind of prophet Yusuff (Joseph) star as spelt in the Holy Quran and he is strategic, if he reads me, to his conscience he knows where he is today, he has dreamt of it long time ago and God in his mercy blessed him with strategies to actualize it. If you are at Mapo hall on December 16th, you would see where stars were bowing for a star, is a reminder of a biblical Joseph that his brothers that were opposition to him later bowed when he eventually became Prime Minister in Egypt. Senator Teslim Folarin is an eloquent political mind and discharged his duty as Senate leader with queens accent as if he is not from Ibadan, death of Umar Musa Yaradua marred his political fortune, An Alao Akala, a politician of not with a date with destiny was also in Mapo and others only one man in Bodija is in political red sea of Oyo State.
* Can we claim that Oke-Ogun is out of political equation?
Yes, judging from the context of political reality unless Governor Ajimobi wants to consume himself with glaring political antagonism in Ibadan.
* Do u think people like Chief Micheal Koleosho from Saki would like this?
This is political reality within APC Oyo State, they are free to flaunt their guber quest however, we are not loosing out under Ajimobi as a zone but, some of our candidates are not politically potent, sagacious and articulated. But Mr Omodewu as Ajimobi protégé still have political future. I have not heard where all the three house of rep members from oke zone in Abuja sat down and co sponsored a bill and lobby their colleagues for establishment of a federal medical center to be situated any town in Oke-Ogun, as big as we are, no hospital of standard status within the radius of 200kms, Ogbomosho of smaller size to us has two teaching hospitals though one is private owned by Bowen and Lautech forget story of one in Oshogbo, someday, Osun and Oyo would not co own lautech and Ogbomosho would be better of after Ibadan.
We don’t have Federal institution of any kind either Polytechnic, College of education or University of Agriculture as our people are food basket of Oyo State yet, a minister is from that zone. Micheal Koleosho is not a Saki man than I do infact, I am more a Saki indigene than him if I go historical. I am from Balogun’s descendants at ‘Idi-Ose’ in Otun area of Saki. If you know Saki very well all of us in “Ajegunle-Saki” came from Otun is our great grand father land and my grandfather Pa Amos Adesokan, a Baptist was Balogun Baggi and Baggi is next to Okere of Saki, in the absence of Substantive king, Baggi is acting king. Nothing like Koleosho or Jolaosho in Saki, it is Egba’s that bears such name but, is about 100years now, we have been together, so who would say I am an Oke-Ogun man? My mother is from Baale Agbe compound in Oje Owode in Saki East, my perternal grandma late madam Racheal Adesokan a Baptist is from Ile-Ebuke compound adjacent Okere of Saki palace, we are Iyalode of Saki while my perternal great grandma is from Kisi in Irepo Local Government and Igboho in Orelope, she was a Princess of the Alalepata’s lineage not through, same woman is from Irawo in Atisbo. Infact my late father who died at 86 years in 2012 in saki used to eulogised us as “Omo Mo Abebi Edu, Imo Ogba Irawo”, so we are also princess great grand-child in Atisbo Local Govt. I am just being politically realistic because I hate living in fool paradise. The chairmen in Oke-Ogun has limited capacity in terms critical needs of infrastructure provisions, so I emphatize with them.
* Is the deputy speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly not performing well? Because I know he is an Oke-Ogun man too?
His duty is to sponsor bills that will be of benefit to his constituent, he does not have any power of project execution however, he is rather busy sponsoring political quarrel with Political fingers that fed him, leaving behind his constituent. I like him as a young man but, he should be humble enough and face legislative business, the needless political battle he is battling might consume him.
* Who is Govenor Ajimobi’s successor, come 2019? As you claimed Oke-Ogun should not be considered in APC?
I wouldn’t know unless I am a witch but, there variables that are pointer to would be candidate even if I know I can’t say as is to early to be blown in the media is within Chief Bayo Adelabu, Chief Alao Akala, Chief Adeniyi Akintola or Chief Yinus Akintunde. All of the above mentioned names, INEC would only recognize one candidate. Chief Alao Akala is not necessary if Oyo State must move forward, he had been there, what else is he bringing on board that is new? Akintola is okay but, his socio political clout would consume Ajimobi in post; Ajimobi era and this will draw us back to political egypt episode of Ladoja vs Adedibu. Adelabu is okay too but, he is outside the system and socio political economic contacts and clout would not be palatable for post in the Ajimobi era, Akintunde is out of permutation. On the gubernatorial candidate against 2019, only Allah can say but, Govenor Ajimobi must be Politically conscious and choose among his political lieutenants, if he doesn’t have any to pick among them, I will be disappointed in his political strategy I regards him for. I have written a personal letter that, I kept but not sure of his leak, it contains things I can be saying in the media here until I secure confidential link before I will drop it for the governor. Govrnor Ajimobi stands to gain more than anyone if he has a good successor and if he doesn’t God forbid, it would be catastrophic. I don’t pray he turns out to be Achike Udenwa of Imo, Saminu Turaki of Jigawa, Lucky Igbinedion of Edo, Gbenga Daniel of Ogun, all these are Governors that are not politically relevant because no successor. If Sanni Yerima of Zamfara State since 1999 is still Politically warlord like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ajimobi issue should not be an exception. Sincerely, house of assembly is my consideration, one has to start from somewhere but, you cant rule out money aspect as our political movement is anchored on finance. APC Oyo State would need to set aside 8 billion for Governorship election if not more than, that is Political reality.
* How do you relax?
I am a boring person, I don’t smoke or drink but plays indoor games like ludo, chess, monopoly, scrabble and draft a lot.
* Don’t you womanise?
I am not a saint as no man is but, to answer you in plain word before my wife protests, I don’t. Marry or engaging with another wife is not a must if you can fulfilled the conditions.
* Can’t you?
I can but that, is not on my card for now, my marriage is young, my kids are young and my wife has been very supportive, loyal amidst challenges. Even if I will marry another woman, I can’t just for marrying sake, she must posseses features that my wife posseses, she must be a likemind, intelligent, brilliant because I hate dullard no matter your beauty.
* How would you describe your loving wife?
My wife is cantankerous and blunt because she is a sergitarian. December born people are toughen not wicked.
* What was your low moment in life ever?
Sadly it was in November 2011 when I lost my elder brother, my Mummy first born at the age of 51, he was everything I made in life, ethical mentorship, he exposed me educationally, I had written SAT 1 and 2 Exams, TOEFL all on his bills, he sponsored my first unsuccessfull student visa application at US consulate in 2003. I pray Allah forgives him and grant him al janat Fridaous.
* What was your ever high moment?
It was the day my wife delievered my daughter, my first born Ashabi, I christened her Rahmah (mercy). Because it was remarkable turning point in my life so the day his brother was delievered too, I christened him Abdul Rahman Morohunkola Adetayo Ajani.
* Who is your role model in Politics or general life ?
Politically, it’s my powerful leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Governor Abiola Ajimobi. In another way round, Sheik Adam Abdullahi Al ilory of Markaz Agege, others are my role model.
