Gunmen kill driver, abduct Chevron worker

UYO—Police in Akwa Ibom State have confirmed the killing of a driver and abduction of one Samuel Ekerenam, a Chevron worker, in the Eket Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John said yesterday the victim was abducted on Saturday November 23 at about pm within his Hephzibah Shopping Mall in Eket.

She explained that the gunmen had shot sporadically to scare people away and then killed his personal driver, demoralized his police escort before whisking away their victim.

“The Commissioner for Police, CP Joseph Eribo and his tactical commanders have visited the scene of the crime and efforts are on top gear to rescue the victim unhurt,” John said.

A family source, who pleaded anonymity told newsmen yesterday that the abductors were yet to contact the family, adding, “We are yet to ascertain the motive of the kidnappers whether the man was seized for ransom or other motive because they are yet to contact the family.”

The family source who further disclosed that the victim is a pastor and staff of Chevron staff noted that he returned from work that same day he was abducted

Journalists recalls that the victim’s wife, Mrs Glory Ekerenam was kidnapped in Eket on October 17, 2019 and kept at the kidnapper’s den at Ikot Ubo in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of the state.
