First Tenure: Governor Abiodun Has Done The Best For Ogun, Deserves Second Term – Alebiosu

The Ijebu-Ode local govt vice chairman, Hon. Damilare Alebiosu has for the umpteenth time described the governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun as a role model in good governance and whose major concern revolves around enhancing the economic prosperity of the state and lifting many residents out of poverty, saying the Governor deserves second term rewarded in office over his performances in his first tenure.

Alebiosu said that he was particularly happy that in the face of the dwindling fortune of revenue from oil, Gov Abiodun has deemed it fit to build a strong economic base for the state through the resuscitated Agro-Cargo Airport project at Iperu as well as the massive investment in agriculture and infrastructures across the state.

The APC chieftain in a chat with The Issues Magazine explained that “it is a thing of joy to have seen the Gov Abiodun running the affairs of the state without the prism of vindictive or partisan politics.

“This is quite evident in the decision of the governor to complete many abandoned projects of immediate past government of Sen Ibikunle Amosun despite the former governor’s stiff opposition to Abiodun’s emergence as the governor of the state as well as the resuscitated Agro-Cargo Airport project started long ago in 2008 by the PDP government of Otunba Gbenga Daniel”.

Damilare said ” I am particularly excited about the bold step taken by Gov Abiodun to kick start the long abandoned multibillion naira Agro-Cargo Airport project. It’s a project with huge potentials to redefine positively the socio-economics dynamics of the state. It will create jobs in their thousands, open up the state for more investment, increase revenue generation for the state, boosts the agricultural sector and ultimately enhance the economic prosperity of the residents of the state”.

Appealing that the people of the state irrespective of their political leanings should rally round the governor to make this dream a reality in his second term in office, saying the governor’s giant strides cut across all sectors has no measures.

Alebiosu observed that in the entire federation, Ogun State has a unique population format that spills into communities on the Lagos border such as Ota, Akute, Alagboole, Ojodu, Agbado, Mowe which cover eight local government areas, adding that government’s presence is felt in those communities under his watch.

“Unfortunately, these communities had been neglected perhaps because they were near Lagos State’s boundaries and so reel under inadequate basic amenities, but the Abiodun government has been able to change the story within three and half years,” he enthused.

Alebiosu, who lauded the governor for ensuring that all parts of the state feel his impact, noted that Ogun State offers huge and promising business opportunities for several communities which had been isolated due to lack of water transportation system.

He said, “Under the Abiodun administration, private investment has been facilitated in water transportation so as to connect several communities in Ipokia, Ado-Odo/Ota, Odogbolu, Ijebu East and Ogun Waterside Local Government areas to be linked in that respect, with Badagry, Iba, Ibeju Lekki and Epe in Lagos State, for rural socio-economic integration.

“In a matter of months, commercial activities are expected to start taking place and planes will start landing and loading at the airport. When it begins operations, it will be the first truly international cargo airport in Nigeria.

“It will probably be the fastest built airport anywhere and it is much more than a cargo airport. The airport is strategically located and its functionality is embedded in the location of the Special Agro Processing Zone. It is estimated that the Agro Cargo Airport will provide means of livelihood for 25,000 people and this should be applauded.”

He explained further that from June 2019 till date, Governor Abiodun had constructed and reconstructed roads spanning 270.88 Kilometres and rehabilitated over 300km of roads. He particularly praised the Governor for the reconstruction of Ilishan/ Ago Iwoye road which had been abandoned by successive Governors for many years.

“From the rebuilding of the Abeokuta-Shagamu Interchange Road,to the Epe- Ijebu Ode Expressway, and the various infrastructural endeavours which include improvement in education and quality health services , I believe Ogun needs not look further for another Governor in 2023”, he declared.

“It is through the unrelenting lobbying of this man of the people called Dapo Abiodun that the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) started building a jetty in Iwopin Beach, which will leverage and explore the waterway and shipping potential of the state, driving in another source of revenue through port services,” he further stated.

Alebiosu added that with over 21 million housing deficit in Nigeria, it is no doubt that affordable housing is also an integral part of the governor’s infrastructural master plan.

“Notable among the state housing projects embarked upon are Prince Court Estate located at Kemta Estate, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta under the First Phase of the project as well as the ongoing 2000 units, including King’s Court Estate (Abeokuta); Laderin Civil Servants Scheme; Ilaro, Ota; Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu,” he stressed.

Arguing that no wise coach changes a winning team, Alebiosu appealed that people of Ogun State should come out en masse to vote Governor Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a second term in office.
